if your camera weighs more than 5.5lbs you need the pistol grip that supports 11lbs

I'm going to get a head that supports at least 11 lbs because I plan on going with a larger lens in the future.

I'm a little confused if I should go with a ball or a 3-way...

For ball I'd probably get http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Ball_Head.html

And for 3-way i'd get http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Tilt_Head.html.

I been wanting to get a DSLR for a while now I think im gonna buy myself a late christmas gift. I been bargin hunting around and found a Rebel XSi for $540 shipped I also looked and read some reviews on the sonys which were very good, found those, well the alpha 200 series for $354 shipped and the 300 series for $470 shipped all 3 come with their lens's and are new not refurbished. You think I should just go with the XSi and call it a day or the Sony's will hold their own?

do not get a sony unless you plan on using the camera like a point and shoot, the xsi is a much better starter set with tons of options to add in the future...

Canon 40d's can be picked up refurb'd for around $650 now. Hell of a deal. Too bad live.com isnt doing the ebay cashback thing anymore. I managed to buy a few things when they were doing 30% cashback.

Although it's important to get a great camera, my uncle - a pro photographer - truly believes it's the photographer and not the camera that makes a picture great. You can have an 8k Canon Mark III D1S and take ****ty pictures believe me...I've seen it With that being said, his friend who is currently the #1 photographer in Vietnam and also the main go-to person for Sony's Alpha series in SE Asia has taken some amazing photos with the Alpha series and I cannot tell the difference between that and his Mark II. So believe what you will but if I was starting out on a budget I'd go for Sony.

My uncle uses a d200 and although it's not the newest that Nikon has to offer, you'll be amazed at his pictures

yea glass is more important than a body but there are times when the body helps out extremely to get the shot or like in my situation i need the durability of a 1 series body to get the job done...
