goforwand Evolution MR Build Thread
Starting the mockup for the front clip. It's going to be entire tubular, so of course we need a test car for fitment right?

More great work from Jay and Evan; these guys skills are awesome...
The car in the background is my Evo IX (soon to be sold once the build is complete) and is being used as a donor car for the time being so that we can have an accurate mock up for the front.
The bumper and fenders for the race car are actually sitting on the red Evo. As we don't have a big budget, I had to be frugal on the exterior parts that had to be replaced from the wreck (rather spend the money on the non-cosmetic parts..afterall, it's a race car!)
The fiberglass replacement fenders are proving to be a challenge (get what you pay for), so they may end up in the dumpster and in their place will be stock fenders....Evan, the bodywork master
will have to make the call.
I'd like to keep them as they are 20mm wider and the car will run Matte Black 18x10 +18 Forgestar's from DoubleDown Motorsports with a 10mm spacer on 265's or 275's. The extra room that the aftermarket fenders provide will be nice, but we'll have to see if they are salvagable.
The replacement bumper actually fits very well. It was very reasonably priced and I like it because it provides easy access for brake ducting; not like the maze that you have to figure out in order to run ducting with the stock IX bumper.
I finally found an OEM color that matches closely to the Flyers Orange; it's an OEM Lambo color, Arancio Ymir. We may add just a hint of red to it to get it closer to the Flyer's orange, but that will be up to the experts at the paint shop.
I already have the suspension set to go; Robispec KW Group N's
and we may add a few more goodies along with the standard f/r Whiteline sways, Center roll, bumpsteer, etc. etc. etc. I would like to get Robi out to help with the set up as we can take that car out locally here at BeaveRun for test and tunes. The Group N's are set up for a standard weight Evo, and this car will probably tip the scales at around +/-2700 dry so the set up will need some adjustment.
Mike at Baierl Mitsubishi in Wexford (the only one that I will let touch the car mechanically) will be working on getting the motor/drivetrain/etc @100%.
We're getting a new ultimate ratio 5-speed tranny from Shep, as well as the t-case and rear diff lock. As non-ACD t-cases are harder and harder to find, we have to keep the ACD in the car and will likely use the Gruppe-S ACD flash...
The beauty of this build using an Evo is that I will not spend much at all on HP mods. Mike at Baierl will do a few things to tune the the car with the objective of having the a nice big "area under the curve". With the exception of an intake and boost control, most everything else will be stock.
With the car being so light, any significant HP upgrades put us into a class where the big boys and big money compete....not where you want to be.
The guys at Domination will be working on the aero (splitter, canards, underpanel, diffuser) as well as a few more surprises up thier sleeves, so stay tuned! 210 Motorsports gave me a great price on an APR wing.
We hope to have the project completed in about 1 month (crosses fingers!)
Can't say enough about Jay and Evan; for a small shop, they do meticulous work and bring a great deal of creativity to their craft

Got the dash mounted:

Gussets Evan made for the dash to sit there nicely:

Started fabbing the tube work for the front bumper, here is sitting in place for mockup:

Also, Pat is down here with his X so it looks like an Evo fun house down here!

Patrick, what class will this car run in that allows tube frame and is not playing with big money cars with way more hp? You doing injustice to the car not running about 500 hp.
Also, why not NASCAR style door bars for the driver side? Just curious.
Awsome build tho I can't wait to see it. Keep up the good work Domination. You should have my car there this winter for some work.

The door X's are arched into the door a good bit. I'll have to get a better picture so you can see. With the B pillar where it is you would have to make the rear of you nascar bar be an S. I don't like that cause its a weak point. That and there arent any plans of this car going wheel to wheel.
Thanks again to everyone for the kind words!
Hey Jeremy,
The car is slated to be a TTS car. Depending on how much it tips the scales at will determine what hp we will run. We have to keep at a 8.70:1.
I was talking to Mike @ Baierl about this today. When he gets the motor next week, we're going to add some simple modifications (ported TB, ported intake mani, ported exhaust, Invidia o2 housing, APR Headstuds, and some other Preventative stuff). The idea is to tune the car once the weight is determined to meet the ratio. We want to create as much torque as possible so that will be the objective of the tuning
We also have the flexibility to add up to 250 lbs of ballast, so we won't likely have to "de-tune" the car.
I wish I had the money to make this a reliable 500 hp car. The money spent with Domination is to make a lightweight; SAFE race car that I can have fun in and hopefully be fairly competitive as my driving skills improve. The fact that we have to put very few dollars in HP mods is the trade off for spending the money on weight reduction and safety.
If I get the itch and have the cash to back it, that car can easily turn into a 500 hp monster....I'll just have to hire you as the driver
Not spending money on performance mods for HP....money is actually in the suspension (there's a laundry list, but the the suspension is built around a set of robispec KW Group-N's)
