very true, no offense to the elderly but something has to be done to avoid situations like this or even worse. DMV should at least require people above certain age to submit themselves into a driving test to determine if they still have what it takes to operate a car safely. Everything slows down when we get old. Can't blame you for being mad, but props for keeping it cool. Hope everything goes right

You section the 1/4 panel in. You think techs are going to do more damage to the car by putting in a whole uni-side to fix the 1/4 panel?

But I feel bad for the OP. That sucks big time. Hope everything goes well.

State Farm is a great insurance company. You are guaranteed to get back OEM factory parts from State Farm so you have a nothing to worry about.

Given the damage to the pillar - They may try to total the car. When dealing with unibody's and especially ones who have roof damage - they are quick to that trigger...

Ask me how I know .. =/

My evo has only 24,500 miles on it . It will defetnely suck if they totalled it. In the worst case scenario i would take the check for my totalled car and then ill just buy it back from them and have. Cash left lol

I think thats a rather bold statement to make. The problem becomes that the insurance company doesn't want the liability of faulty repair, or a repair that they cant guarantee. We will see how it turns out - But I bet the cost in the end is at least 10K+.

Again - This is a solid point. There is often geometry screwed up that the naked eye cant see. But you will be able to see as soon as you put it up on a frame machine.

A warning about state farm.

My fiance was hit by a drunk driver about 5 months ago and her car had some pretty bad damage she was also sustained some injuries from the accident to her knee and neck. State farm adjuster came and was all nice and she got a rental car and we thought everything was going to be perfect.

Until the check arrived $2,700 thats all they wanted to pay. At first i was like nice, front bumper hood and headlight and fender easy fix i know a paint guy but something told us we should lawyer up. So we did just to see, lawyer recommended we had the car fixed by a "state farm body shop", which happened to be the Cadallic Dealership...well that 2700 estimate turned into 8,500 (we only paid 13k for the car but it wanst totaled out :\ ) ....months later the final bill was 10,500 work done on the car. not to mention 1.5 months of car rental and doctors bills...

lawyer and state farm are still battling this out...trying to avoid going to court.

Oh and to let you know the original 2700 included used oem parts and or "comparable aftermarket price parts" they dont always pay you MSRP from Mitsubishi...unfortunately thats not how things work (each adjuster / insurance company is different). they first try to find used parts at a local salvage yard or one in their network, then they check aftermarket and if they cant find anything there they go to OEM...

edit: just saw someones post about what the naked eye cant see...
and wanted to add my .02

my fiance was hit head on, driver going the wrong way probably at 30-40 mph...she slammed on the brakes and kept her foot depressed on the brake while the guy was in the process of hitting the car, I guess from the impact this not only caused pain/damage to her knee but to the brake system...they had to replace parts on the entire brake setup (what exactly i dont remember) initially the brakes seemed undamaged.

old people are worse than drunk people. i dont see how they are allowed to drive, and if its dark out they cant see. wtf if you cant tell the differance between the gas and brake then sell your car and shred your license.
