Cinque - the 1998 EVO V.
Hey everyone.
have been reading this forum for a couple months now; and figured id join in at this point.
I bought this 1998 EVO 5 almost a year ago now, from the Japanese auctions. it was still rego'd there, and had spent its life running around Kobe.
id been trying to find a nice 5 for a few weeks, and fell in love when this one turned up..

..it was the Ralliart flaps, and that huge ARC cooler. throw in the fact it looked tidy, and i was totally won over.
had a bloke check it out briefly (its all relatively fast paced), no rust, no smoke, and no suspect noises. i was good to go.
anyway, bid in, got extremely lucky, and the car was now mine! no more Japan for this EVO; now its all sunshine and **** roads! :P
last pics before hopping on the boat.

..then bam. boat. was 5 or 6 weeks from memory.
went to Brisbane, Australia; before getting on a truck and coming down to Melbourne.
finally at home, after washing it inside/out. was covered in ****/stickers/writing from shipping and sitting around. was good to clean it all off..

books/paperwork. very lucky:

quick repaint of all the mesh:

the ARC wide-type cooler, and HKS oil cooler:

more

Tein Monoflex, EDFC, Cusco bracing, Cusco swaybars, Endless rotors, rock hard pads...

spent the next few months just toying about with the car. it was still unregistered, and i have other cars. it was no rush.
- swapped in a better carpet
- another centre console
- removed the old HKS gearknob, Razo pedals, and Wide mirror
- hid the HKS EVC, Tein EDFC, and the turbo timer
- cleaning
- more cleaning
then, there's the engine bay.
this is how it was before i touched a thing..

all just very worn.
after much scrubbing, I-Dash tape removal, and polishing of the hardpipes..

it was much cleaner, but still needed work. its a shame, as it has many fantastic parts to show off, but just all grubby!
seeing all the Tomei parts it had visible in the engine-bay (manifold, dump, frontpipe, heatshield); i set about making it a Tomei Genesis 4G63 mockup.

parts needing painting, out:

absolutely spotless inside the head. no burnt oil or carbon in sight. unknown spec HKS cams, HKS valvesprings, HKS cam gears, HKS sparkplugs (lol), HKS timing belt...
bought a ton of stuff to put in, put it in, and here it was..

then to black battery, and standard intake with HKS panel filter:

inside:

hidden EVC:

old EDFC and turbo-timer locations:

hidden:

where they hide:

quick wash underneath:

and regoed:

Beautiful trying to make it look stock as possible. You are like me who likes to hide stuff inside the car (boost cont. in glove box and such). The car looks like its freshly painted too. Try to keep it look stock as much as possible.
