Bumper Tab Relocation
Hey all,
I picked up a set of 18x9.5" NT03+Ms +27 (the Touge Factory ones), and put 265/35 tires on them. I was having issues rubbing all over so I did an EvoDave in the front on the medium setting and rolled the rears. The car is on Tein S Techs (previous owner and I haven't had a chance to change them). After I drove the car for a bit it still rubbed badly in the rear, so I decided to relocate the bumper tab and shave the rear bumper.
For people looking to do this I took a few pictures, as I couldn't find much when looking up how to do it. You basically just look to see where your tires rub (wear marks) and cut it off
.
Paint over bare metal and clean it up however you choose, but I just thought it would be remotely helpful for someone going into this task blind for them to see what they're getting themselves into.
Before (you can see the wear marks from the tires):

I think I'd be fine in the front as I don't yet have the fender mod. Going to 285's would be about 1" wider, so it would stick out 1/2" further.....I'm sure I can get 1/2" with the fender mods. Just worried about the rears. My fenders would be fine as they are massaged a little and I'm no where near rubbing, but I'd be worried about the trailing arm.

It's rubbing like crazy because you're running low offset on a super wide wheel. The rear on these cars like higher offset if you plan to run wide tires. Nothing less than mid-30s from my experience. If you look up R/T Ernie, Warrtalon, and countless autox/track setup that run up to 295, they're all higher offsets. On NT03, you guys should be running +40s in the rear.

No prob!
I'm running stock camber ATM, waiting to put that Whiteline kit on before I get aligned. I think with a decent agressive but no tire wear alignment it should tuck the fronts in there good enough. I'm talking with another member and it seems that the removal of my fender liners would solve my issue, as it rubs in the back of the well on the liner (by the side skirt.
You have the perfect offset for a 285, but then you have to worry about the trailing arm. I'm going to do something like this here soon so I can keep my offset and have a functional widebody setup.

They cut the red piece out, weld to pieces on either side at an angle to make it wider, then smooth the welds and that way it looks natural.
No problem, mang! A lot of people think it's easy to fit a decent tire with this offset and I found it to be quite the opposite.
No problem, man! That low offset is killing you as chu said below.
I totally agree. I like this offset because it gives the car a wider stance. Rather than tucking the wheels in I'd rather widen the exterior, which obviously costs more, but it's just personal preference.
You've got the evo dave fender mod, so just move it out to the max position and it should be fine. What camber? I'm running 265/35's right now, but I want to go 285/35 or 30.

Do it slow with much caution and you'll be fine. It's not 'hacking' if you do it in a neat, clean fashion.
Plus, any potential Evo buyer should understand a functional mod such as this when done right if you decide to sell your car down the road.
