tap plastics

i want to see pics also... If you are still looking for a place that works w/ different types of plastics, check out Tap Plastics they also have different colored plastics so you might be able to get a smoked piece which would still allow light through...

Isn't this just doing it the hard way? Can't you order the JDM trim bits from Mitsu? I too would like to move my a/c unit to the JDM position, so as to free up room for a double DIN stereo/screen.

Anyone know if the JDM climate control unit is just a plug and play proposition and how much it costs? I know its in English, and i've seen them transferred from Evo 3's into non climate control Mitsu Lancers before.

jdm is a completely different type of system in terms of ac controls....ours are mechanical, whereas jdm is vacuum. Don't take my word on it but this is what i understood...i would be hyped if i could install the jdm in our lancers, looks soo much cooler...but yeah lots of work....if it were even possible
Still regardless of if its the hardway or not, mine is done and im happy

You're exactly right. The best way to put this is the US Evo is mechanical, whereas the JDM Evo is Electronic. Now I'm not sure whether there is an electronic actuator somewhere that the dash controls connect to or whether the actuators are built into the mechanics in the motors. If it were that there was a seperate actuator that controlled all the dash functions, there would be a way to convert it into the US Evo at a miderate price, but if replacement of the whole system is required, forget it. I'll be attempting this mod soon. Thanks for trying this and I'm sure I'll be asking you some Q's.

Hi! Just wanted to let you guys know that I have successfully moved my HVAC controls too, exactly the same way the others here have explained. I used the radio relocation kit (without brackets) and had to cut the exact same little metal plate (well, not cut it completely, just a part about 1.5" by 3/4").

As for the radio relocation kit, I got mine at my Mitsubishi dealership for 18$ CDN (roughly 15$ USD right now..). I got the part number in another thread here (a sticky thread that says "important part numbers" I believe..). I own an OZ and the part I got is black like the rest of the dash.

I also took the plate that usually goes around the radio+hvac and cut the part that covers the hvac. I installed that plate on the hvac to keep the "original" look.

good luck!
