Inexpensive replacement speakers?

guys looking to replace my stock speakers with a decent set.. anyone got a decent set of front and rear speakers they could recommend? Crutchfield only list 4 different 6 3/4" speaker options.. is that the right size? could i fit a more popular 6 1/2" speaker there?

basically looking for a decent recommendation on repalcement speakers for around $60 a set?

The stock speakers are 6 1/2" for both front and rear.
I have a pair of Polk Audio EX3 ($79) for front speakers. Cleaner and sharper sound, but not as much bass as stocks.

If I remember correctly the stock size is 6 3/4's, but 6 1/2's will work with adapter plates.

A 6.5 should go in. A 6 3/4 speaker is an oversized 6.5. The 6.5 speaker's frame should have a big enough slot to allow it to mount without an adapter.

Order the 6.5s from crutchfield, and if they don't fit send them back.

You do have to take the door panels off to get to the front speakers. Do a search here and you'll find a couple great write-ups on how to get them off. If you never done it before, (which I hadn't), it really feels like you're going to break things, but you wont. The only thing I'll mention is be careful when removing them from around the door handle itself. Mine pulled out then snapped back when I was removing the panel, and on both sides the spring tensioner popped out of the handle. Getting that spring back in there correctly SUCKED. So be careful. I think when you know to be careful about it, it shouldn't be a problem.

And to verify, we do have 6 and 3/4" drivers, not 6 and 1/2. Go to best buy or crutchfield and get a step down spacer. Good luck man! You'll notice immediate improvements when you get the cardboard peice of poop stock drivers out of there.

Also on the front speakers remember that the mounting depth has to be 2.5" or less to clear the window! Only some 6.5" speakers will directly fit the opening due to the size of the hole. I ended up making 1/4" thick plates to mount new rears and 1/2" spacers to mount the fronts for my 6.5" CDT speakers. A lot of work but they rock. You can pick up some adapters for hooking the stock wires to the speakers or simply splice onto the wires to attch them. There are several good posts on removing the doors and replacing the stock sound system.

I recommend getting a new deck rather then new speakers. It makes a huge difference in the stock speakers. Getting more power to the stock speakers, will probably be better then the same power to higher quality speakers. My stock ones sound pretty damn good in my opinion.
