Replacing Stock Component Speakers?

I went into Circuit City today because they have a kick *** set of Infinity components that I thought I would see if they could put in the front door. As soon as I asked the guy there about the tweeters in the pillars, they totally backed off and said they couldn't do it, they wouldnt recommend me replacing them, it would be too much work for like no reward. Then they went on to say that the best way to improve sound is to just replace the head unit. Anyway, my question is this, has anyone out there replaced the speakers in the pillars, or if they replace the front door speakers, do the pillar tweeters still work?

I replaced all my speakers with focals. they sound great but IF your going with nice speakers I really would make a huge difference to get a better deck. Also if you get a component set with the crossovers etc the tweeters will still work if you just put coaxals in the front and don't have the crossovers then the tweeter wont have anything giving them signal (they wont work) I recomend going to a real stereo shop circuit city just isn't quite up to snuff when it comes to car audio stuff they also are expensive.

yeah... you can install new speaker and tweeters, just depends if the tweeters fit in that little pillar. I've heard of people drilling into the door just above of the door handle, closer to the dashboard to install the new tweeters. It's kind of tricky to disconnect the stock tweeters, but can be done easily.

Jeff thats really odd you would blow so many are you way overpowering them and are you sure your wireing is right? most fosgate stuff I have had usually lasts pretty good its not the best SQ out there but for SPL and reliability its a good brand.

I replaced the stock speakers in the door and rear deck (with Alpine SPS-170As), leaving the tweeters in the A-pillars alone. The tweeters still work just fine. The stock speakers are pretty low quality, with small magnets, paper cones, and whizzer cones for the high end. There was a very large improvement in the overall sound, mostly in the mid bass region. I also replaced the head unit (more power) and added a powered subwoofer a few weeks later, but I can report that just replacing four speakers (and leaving the stock tweeters in place) is a big improvement.

Same Problem. I own a stereo shop, and the RF comps are tricky as they come with 4 tweeters and will self destruct if not wired properly or without the X-over. As to the difficulty of replacing the speakers, it really is not that hard. I've done a few Evo's from the local dealership, and it's no biggie. I can't understand why everyone likes the infinity components so much though. I've installed/sold a few, and I'm really not impressed. For the same, if not lower price, I can sell much better components from Kove Audio, Rockford Fosgate, heck you're only $50 away from the Focal Access. Just my two cents, but this trend of buying infinity strikes me as a human example of lemming behavior.
