WOW!!! Don't even have words man...
Planting more rubber to the ground is always best if you've added horsepower. Its just a matter of if you have the room or not. A competition tire will give the most grip, but will wear super quick on the street and really do nothing for you in the wet. 255's will fit 8.50 to 10.00" wheels and 265's 9.00 to 10.50" wheels.
There isn't a competition tire made in the 265's, just street tires. I'd look at the Bridgestone S-03 or Michelin Pilot Sport. They are the best performing in that size.
The 255's do offer competition tires. Of them, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup would be best. Its durable enough for street use, but is as sticky as a Hoosier (if your familiar with them). Still not great for wet traction though. In a street tire, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS-2 would be the best way to go.

yeah i looked at the michelin pilot sport ps-2 as i have run about every other street tires out ....lol . Anyway i ended up deciding on a set of AO32R's i told them to order 275 40 17's then decided to go with 255 40 17 's afterwards so they are ordering those instead. I was gonna go with the pzero corsa but those will wear even faster than the ao32r H compound so i went the other way. Maybe if i get some good results you can get me some more sets for my racing ....hehe i am not against sporting tire rack on my rear side windows... I figured the ao32r's are going to be sweet anyway cause they look great and will get attention at the car shows this year i am attending...i just hope they do ok at the races i am attending.

plus i didn't want the extra rotation of the 275 40 17s which would slow me down coming outta corners with the tires acting like longer gearing...ya know
