ok the thread is done, this will likely be the last update i perform... i'll talk to mods about cleaning the thread and making a stickie.

How about adding tire diameter information? E.g. stock is 25.3", a 255/35 is 25", a 255/40 is 26", a 265/35 is 25.3", etc.

i put the tire calculator in for that, the other thing is i don't want to misadvertise anything as each manufacturer of tires uses a dfiferent tolerance standard and they can vary hugely from the advertised "grid" sizing. take hankook for example... they deviate a lot from all other manufacturers in width.

When I did research on the 5Zigen Fno1c-r 18x9.5, most stores recommend 235/40/18 tires!
You say that's too thin?
Is it that bad??
You say that's too thin?
Is it that bad??i could say a lotta things right now but here's what i'll say.
for one, the stores are recommending a bad size, likely becuase you're running a huge wheel and they don't wanna be bothered with you not being able to fit it. that said as long as you generously roll the rear fenders you will be able to fit up to 275 35.
the stock tire is a 235 45, to kick it down to 40 would make it thinner, is that too thin? for an 18, no. could you go thicker? certainly. do you want that much tire stretch on a 9.5" wheel? only if you want to show off your rim bead.

comes in
255 40 17,
235 40 18,
245 40 18,
275 35 18.
You probably also want to mention 245/45/17. For SCCA street touring (STU), that's the widest you can legally go on the stock (or any other 17") rim.Originally Posted by trinydex

Except the 615 isn't made in 245/40/17. Originally Posted by trinydex

Sure, but you wanted this to be the end all -- be all, right? It looks like the folks who want to be competitive on STU are running 245/245/17, so I was suggesting that you at least list it as a possibility. We'd all be running 255/40 if the M3 guys didn't complain about those pesky "rules".

Ok, with that said. I really don't want to get into the whole rolling the fenders thing. Therefore, other options besides 255/35/18 (which is what I've mostly seen), for a 18x9.5" rim, would 245/40/18 be an issue with rubbing and a 35+ offset??Originally Posted by trinydex

255 actually shouldn't rub, especially since you're already stretching that with a 9.5. 245 will just be that much thinner.

Ok, not doubting that the 255 would not rub with 35 series tire...however what about 40 series since the wall is bigger? Originally Posted by trinydex

Reason for that is I'm worried about the ride quality with a 35 series tire being so damn thin and riding right on the rim. At least maybe a 40 series would give it some more room. Therefore thinning out the width a bit using 245's with a 40 series wall to make up some??
uhm... i just said that the 255 35 would not rub... are you asking if 255 40 will rub?
you should try using hte tire diameter calcualtor that i provided in the first post. it's very good and easy to use for comparisons. otherwise, don't deviate from the sizes that are known to work.

with that said... on a 9.5 rim the 255 40 will be stretched more and will give more clearence. however i still do not recommend it. Originally Posted by trinydex

Yeah, I'll try that. Originally Posted by trinydex
