rebound/bump settings for KW V3s

Hi Guys,

I've been playing with the rebound/compression settings for my KW Variants 3s on my EVO IX.

THe car is stock everything, except the suspension.

I have tried a couple settings:
SCENARIO 1:

FRONT:
rebound - 1 1/2 turns from full stiff
bump - 7 clicks from full stiff

REAR:

rebound - 2 turns from full stiff
bump - 7 clicks from full stiff

observations: this was the KW recommend settings, it felt pretty good. Car felt glued to the road but bobbed a bit with soft bumps.

SCENARIO 2:

FRONT:
rebound - 1 turns from full soft
bump - 4 clicks from full soft

REAR:

rebound - 1/2 turn from full stiff
bump - 4 clicks from full soft

observations: this was some testing I did. I actually started from the above rebound settings and NO BUMP. Bad mistake, so I gave both front and rear 4 clicks of bump and that helped a bunch.
Now the car feels good.. but not optimal (alot more bobbing than scenario 1)

My question to you guys with KW Variant 3s (stock spring rates included in the kit).. what settings have you found that works well..

thanks,

steve

PM me your email and i'll send you a sheet that Mark from DMS(it will still provide help adjusting KW's) just sent me today. It's a spec sheet that'll help dial-in your KW's.

I just ordered a set of KW's V3 today actually.

I think your main problem is that you arent running enough bump. KW recommends that your bump should be .75 turns (3 clicks) away from full stiff. If you are running 7 clicks (1.75 turns) away from full stiff (situation1), or 4 clicks (1 turn) from full SOFT (situation2), then you are running way less bump than they suggest. If you add more bump, then it should help with a lot of the bobbing that you are experiencing.

From a few track days/ autoxs ive done with the coils, these are the bump/ rebound setting that seem to work for me. Keep in mind that tires, alignment, ride height, sway bar settings, driving style, track/road conditions, etc etc etc...... will effect the way the car handles. These seem to work for ME with MY car.

Front:
Rebound: .8-.9 turns from full stiff
Bump: .5 turns from full stiff

Rear
Rebound: 1.25 turns from full stiff
Bump: .5 turns from full stiff

try it out and let me know how you like it

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the info, I will try something closer to .75 turns (3 clicks) from full stiff.
As for rebound, I'll try your settings too.

BTW, I've noticed that the bump adjustment on the shocks has about 12-13 clicks. The KW manual says 8 x 1/4 revs or 8 clicks. Did you notice this?

Also are you running the factory spring rates that come with the KW V3s?

Thx,

Steve

Goodluck looking to see your results.

I am looking at the KW V3s.

They seem like the only coilovers that don't rust.

Thumbs up

Check to clarify how to set the kw's. Looking from the top of the strut/car, clockwise means the same direction for both compression and rebound? Meaning, if looking from the bottom, it would be counter-clockwise to increase compression? Thanks!

people, for a good setting the rebound must be always more stiff than bump....remember this...

Very important. And if you're running standard KW rates you really are leaving a lot on the table! Damper settings can only help so much when the spring rates are completely screwed...
