The BFGs are a whole lot wider. I had to do a bunch of work to get them to fit, even though they're the "same" size.
That looks like it would provide all the traction you need. How much bigger is the BFG than the A6?

Probably around 1/2" They also have a really square shoulder, while the Hoosiers have a round shoulder, so that takes up more space too...

.

Maybe its cause I only have a 10" wheel, but the BFGs fit just about the same on the car. The rounded vs square shoulder seems to be the biggest fit difference for me and I had to do some BFH messaging on the inner fender well. Just needed to round an edge the tire wanted to rub at full lock. Still rubs, but its a soft rub () instead of cutting.

Unmounted the BFGs look wider though.

I had the most trouble on the outboard side both front and rear. Rubbing the fenders where the Hoosiers were close but didn't rub. I rubbed the front where the fender meets the bumper barely even turning because of how much caster I have. As a result the inside of the fender and bumper are both all cut out and I have quick releases on the outside now.

Im guessing you don't have the CIRO or Vorschlag hat that move the top back? That's one area I haven't rubbed (yet?). And my car is pretty low.

the 285 bfg section width is the 'same' as an A6 but the tread width is 1/2" wider (which is why it looks more square). Unmounted the bead width of the A6 is 10.5" and 11" for the BFG.

marshall was my inspiration/motivation. dont think i would have made the leap to 10.5's with out him confirming that they would work.

did a hillclimb on a pretty rough road this weekend with 285/30's small mount of rubbing in the rear where i was not getting it in autox on smooth surfaces. the 285's are a good .75" wider than the 275's. need to work on the pass rear a little more

Hey, not like I came up with it either. I stole the 10.5" wheel idea from a guy in the 'stanced evo' thread. I did put some wider tires on however...

I copied Marshall too... But after I first copied Jarrod. I'm so unoriginal.

^So these are 10.5 × 10 +38 ?? With a but load of hammering on the inner wells? Any rubbing on the front right inside? ...or is it just the rear passenger that's the common issues?

I actually did both sides (Copying R/TErnie myself)..he has it all detailed in this thread just have to look for it....

In my case, however, the Work XD9's 18x10 +38 just wont clear the calipers in front even with a 22 mm spacer in place...

its the spoke design man. i ran those in a 9.5 on another car and almost ran into issues i had never seen with other identically sized wheels. pus they are heavy as an elephant.
