Why do you have 2 different sets of wheels on your car?

Why not? I didn't wanna pay $700/wheel for CCWs in the rear and I got a smoking deal on the pair in front. They're race wheels only (hence the r-compounds), so they won't be on the car all the time. I'll probably powder coat them at some point so they're at least the same color

Wow wait, I thought running staggered width wheels on an awd car was bad? I'm coming from the Subaru world where its absolutely extremely bad. This must be different on an EVO?

^^He's running different widths, not staggered as in different diameters. As long as overall diameter is (within some margin) the same, the AWD system doesn't care too much. Some of the OEM's are doing this, you can get X drive BMW's with staggered width wheels from the factory.

I understand that much, but when the same situation arises in the Subaru community, we're still not able to run staggered widths, even the marginal difference the width makes to the overall height of the tires really messes with our center diff. I'm all for the staggered width if it doesn't blow up diffs!

My fiance has a 335xi that came with the staggered wheels and tires from the factory, and obviously has had no issues. And while i can't comment from my personal evo, we do have a local guy here that runs staggered (17x10 front, 17x9 rear) on same size tires with no issues, at least for the 2 years I've known him. So, at the very least, I can say it does not seem to effect evo's very much.

I think the root of the "issue" comes from the type of center diff you have. For a mechanically locked unit, it should not be much of an issue. But for something with clutch packs or a viscous coupling, the difference in rolling diameter (due to stretching same tire size over due wheel widths) can cause the clutch packs to lock/unlock, fluid to heat up, etc. which can eat up the diff. This is more of a shot in the dark than anything though, so hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

Yea, and the Audi guys run staggered stuff all the time, so I'm assuming its just the Subaru diff that doesn't agree with the staggered width. Cool stuff.

Does anyone know if you can put a 315/30/18 on a 10.5in rim?

Here is my setup:

Year/Make/Model: 2003 VIII GSR
Wheels: Work Miesters SP1 3pc 18x10.5 -1offset
Tires: Falken Azenis 615k 315x30 18
Suspension: APEXI S1 Circuit custom 10kg front springs & 8kg rears
Alignment: STOCK
Body Modification: APR EVIL R 9 WIDEBODY
Advice: with 315s you must shave some of the inner side skirts so it won't catch or rub on full lock turns.
