Tire/Wheel/offset question for EVO IX

Hello All,

I'm new here and don't know much about EVO's. My fiance bought an IX a few weeks ago and we are looking to upgrade wheels and tires.

I was looking into some 18x8.5 wheels, but I don't know two things....

1) What size tire is the best bet...I was thinking 245/40/18's, but that is just what I read

2) What size offset should I go with...the brand I want offers the wheel in +29 and +45...

Thanks in advance...

With a +29 offset you'll have no issues with a 255/35/18 depending on the tire itself. A 245/40/18 would be a "safe" choice.

Thanks for the reply.

So I should go with the +29 over the +45....does that mean there will be issues with the +45

Definately go with the +29. The +45 would likely have issues rubbing the caliper, strut, and control arm.

1) 235/40/18 tires
2) 18 x 8.5 +30 offset

This is the ideal setup for a 18 X 8.5" wheel on a Evo. 245-40's will have rubbing issues in the front while turning. I put a set of Volks on my car with the same specs with a 245-40 and it rubbed sitting stock height.

I suppose I should ammend my post above.. I effectively translating my thoughts to finger tips

I ran 17x8.5 TE37's with a +30 offset with a 255/40/17 tire on my EVO 8, and while discussing this thread, I just had that "40" series in my head.

A 255/35/18 is effectively the same overal size as a 255/40/17

You'll probably have some rubbing up front, but its just when taking sharp turns with the steering wheel all the way to lock and maybe some rubbing while in reverse turning as well. Nothing major. It'll stop once you've worn a hole in the fender lining.
