When a ball joint fails you will usually hearing a clicking sound coming from the rear, it WILL NOT alter the angle of the wheel. The ball joint is attached to the axle which puts power to the wheel it does not help support the wheel hub assembly, if it did we'd all be screwed...

This is why you don't get troubleshooting advice on the net. If you don't know enough to diagnose it yourself, take it to a shop.

For posterity, a ball joint has nothing to do with the axle.

Please don't post advice if you also have no idea what you're talking about (if you were joking, it didn't translate).

If it "looks" like the failure mode for your BJ is that the boot is leaking grease I wouldn't really worry about it. Both of my rear upper control arm outer BJ's have been leaking grease for years now with no adverse issues. My boot is not torn, it's simply a matter of the boot design and its interface with the upright.

Are you talking about the CV joint? Axles dont have ball joints, they have CV joints. Ball joints connect hub/spindles to control arms.

Oh yea.. this should help it's the rear suspension chapter out of the service manual. Details on replacing everything.
