Now that I have been on this forum for a while, I hate to start new threads. I hope this thread hasn't been covered elsewhere but the search function is absolute crap. It would find things for about a week at the turn of the year or whenever there was that site maintenance... but not so much now...
Anyway, has anyone had any experience with the Megan Racing BBK for the Evo (or anything else)? Here is the link from MAPerformance:
http://www.maperformance.com/megan-r...e-kit-evo.html
And here is a review from a 350Z/G35 forum praising them:
http://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-s...ck-proven.html
Otherwise I can't find a ton of information on them other than they look dirt cheap, gigantic, and seem to work for the few that have used them. If you have some experience with these or know someone who has, post up!
----PLEASE DO NOT VOICE YOUR OPINIONS OF MEGAN RACING. ONLY POST IF YOU HAVE SOME VALID INFORMATION ON THE BBK OR SOMEONE'S EXPERIENCE WITH IT. PLEASE AVOID THE 'OUR BRAKES CAN DO 99% OF ANYTHING YOU THROW AT IT RESPONSE AS WELL'----

I've ordered this kit recently. Had to purchase 18" wheels too.
There was some positive review about this kit here on EvoM but I can't find it now.

I don't think its a search issue -- I don't think you see it here because our OE setups can do 99% of what we need them to do. I have not heard of anyone who races use this setup.

I never offered the kit because 99.9999999999999999% of people don't need it and we already have "bling" red calipers behind the wheels.

i agree that the cost/benefit ratio makes it a hard sell.
you can do alot with the stock setup to help with braking.

I agree that the cost/ benefit ratio is a tough sell, which is exactly why I bagged my plans to get a BBK this season and instead went to max out the stock setup.
Anyway... over the next few years I plan to turn the car into a full race car, not right now but I like to know my options to max out my car. This kit is about 3000 and far and away cheaper than more BBKs. You usually get what you pay for, but that is not always the case. Hence, I was looking for reviews or information, not "our brakes are good for 99.999999% of cases", indulge me on the 0.0000001%. (Mine aren't red anymore anyways
)
Andrew, this is one of my most important questions about the kit, I dunno if it maybe just copies another manufacturers design to use their pads, like perhaps the Stoptech ST60. I would hope someone knows.
Smikeevo, try to type in "megan racing big brake kit". You will get 248 results... I have done this before where the search function is listing results that simply do not have all of the search terms, sometimes none of them. I had a really tough time looking for info on RPF1s. It would have tons of results when I searched for a specific size. This is usually the case when you use the 'search this forum' search option as well. Maybe I am doing something wrong... I dont think so and it seems hard to misuse a search function...
I would still like more information! Thanks all!

Fair enough, and it's your thread. With that said, I've not sold any of these kits for the stated reasons, so have no information on them to offer. However, pad/rotor availability would be of the upmost concern to me if building a race car... hell my daily driver for that matter. Those are both consumables. If it were me... even though I could get myself a killer price, I don't think I'd do the Megan kit unless I could get pads/rotors from other sources if I HAD to. Some of the other kits have multiple pad suppliers which not only make it easier, but adds variety. Originally Posted by Protostar1

I don't have time to get the skinny from Megan today, but if reminded, will check on Monday.

Stock brakes are better than most brakes you you find on any other car. But still they suck. Mine were bleed, fluid changed to the best Motul I could find, I'm already using Ferodo 2500 and still they fade badly. And that's on street (driving pretty wildly though, but that's not the point). I do know how to brake, and switching to 2500 pads did make significant difference... but that is absolutely not enough. I guess I'm in those 0.000001% on this one.
I recently installed switched to 18" wheels with 255/35/18 tyres. Just so happened these came in faster than the BBK. Now that I have more grip, brakes are starting to fade even sooner.

You can replace the rotors (to be ordered from Megan) on this kit, pads have to be ordered via Megan too as I understood. I don't have this kit in hands yet and can't share any personal experience, but certainly will do so when i get it. There WAS a thread here with somebody who autoxed this kit and was pleasantly surprised by how it performed.

When I was shopping for BBK I didn't find single negative feedback or review about Megan's kit. I did find negative reviews on AP and Alcons though with all this rotor cracking and stuff. I think BBK may be the only product Megan did right
Seriously, find my one single person who tracked this kit and and said it sucked ***. Not necessarily an Evo owner.

No your not. The 0.00000001% are serious club or TT cars, 2500lbs 500hp. Originally Posted by Angry Slipper

I still don't think you have not maximized you stock brakes. For that much fading on the street I can only guess you are over-braking or doing something tremendously illegal.
I think you need to learn proper braking techniques well before getting a BBK. The BBK doesn't fix that.
On the Megan BBK - what are the specs on the pad characteristics? How much r-coefficient do they have? What is their MOT?

Well I knew it'll come to debating my braking skills Originally Posted by SmikeEvo

. Leave those alone, I know how to brake
. As for illegal, well, yeah at some point 99.9999% people don't drive like I do on street. That's probably true. No i'm not over-braking, I'm over-accelerating thus having to brake harder and shorter to decelerate
The solutions to my problem, other than BBK is "drive slower", but that's not how I want to solve this.I'm absolutely positive stock brakes are maxed out. Paint began to come off... they are overheating badly.

I have no idea. I'm actually pretty sure I will be able to fit 3rd party pads designed to other BBKs with same rotor size, but even if I don't still wanna try the kit.Originally Posted by SmikeEvo

Actually the lighter the car, the smaller brakes would be enough... So at some point I'm even in worse position than those club car owners.Originally Posted by SmikeEvo
