Evo 8 vs Evo 9 Bilsten suspension
You have some good responses here-- I have made the swap-- Bilsteins are the only way to go! Ride is far superior-- however, if you want to keep skittering across the tops of the bumps in the road--stay with the kyb.

My recommendation would be Swifts Sports or GTWorx (on KYBs) for occasional HPDEs. Spec Rs if you get more serious into tracking. Then get into Bilsteins (both MR and HD can be custom valved).
Edit: RobiSpec are also another great choice. I have not driven on them though. But I have driven the above mentioned.
The Bilstein MR and HD are the same length as the KYB. Differences are in valving.
There are a few companies (Kmac, Tein, etc) that make camber plates that work on the Evo. I never ran camber plates. On the Swifts with the -2 selection I was seeing -1.7 to -2 front camber. Which was always more than enough for my style.
My setup (when I had an Evo
): Swift Spec Rs, Bilstein HD (which eventually became custom valved), Swift sway bars. See my threads for credentials - AX wins, many track days, sponsored.

GREAT tech my friend! Your thread had exactly what info i was looking for.
what is the difference between the bilstein HD and the MR units? valving?
also, the drop on those is a bit lower than I want. ( i just got rid of my CRV and was able to drive ANYWHERE, i would really love to lower the car, but for romping around the city and when the snow comes, i dont want to have to worry.
I saw in the spring rate list stickied, the RALLIART springs have nice rates and drop but it looks like they are linear. I am also not able to find a price for them anywhere.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
MRs are valved softer than the HD. But both are rebuildable by Bilstein. I'd get a set of used MRs (HD can be hard to get) and send them in for rebuild/custom valve before mounting.
I have never seen or heard of anyone actually having the RA springs.
GTWorx have a slightly higher ride.
For what its worth. I drove my Evo year round on my Swifts. MI, OH, NE winters...in NYC...on NE roads. Never was an issue and I had a front lip that put me 3in off the deck.

quick question smike, if i were to buy some used mr's and get them rebuilt for spec-r's, what rate would i give bilstein?
the entire progressive range? or just the final rate?
thanks

MAN I LOVE SUSPENSION TALK!
gets me hot in the pants.
(never had progressive rates on the hondas, so that was my next question.)
approximately what is the cost per corner for the bilstein revalve?
as far as alignments go, Im doing my own on the teg, but my buddy did the evo while i was fiddling on the other car.
what are the OEM tow parameters set to? i do 40 miles a day of highway driving and want longevity. If i can set the tow to zero without getting too much different / adverse effects (tracking the crown etc. I don't feel like wrestling my whole commute.) then I'll go with that.

If your suspension is "going softer" as you mentioned it may be worn struts and shocks. If you want something "stiffer" the only way is revalved struts and shocks because the KYB's are reported to be stiffer than the Bilsteins.
