Bumping this!!! My clunking is getting really bad. Anyone found anything yet?

I've changed: wheel bearing, axle, tie rod, tie rod end and struts.

I have this noise too. Took it everywhere to inspect my suspension and blah blah blah. No one could find out what it is. BUT, I was just up at CBRD last week and asked them to look at it. They said that it was my steering rack. Maybe thats something you could look at.

I've checked everything as well, passenger side is getting pretty bad. Talking to a friend, we concluded that it's the bearing in the top hat.
When I first started getting the clunking, I cranked WAY down on it, and it got better, then WAY worse. Specs call for like 30ft/lbs, so I think I trashed it. The tophats are the ONLY thing that haven't gotten swapped out.
I'm gonna pick one up and try it when I change over to my snow tires so I only need 1 alignment.

The rack and top hats are probably the only things that I haven't changed. If you guys change either of these part, please reply back. This clunking and popping noise is killing me.

Had this problem as well, mine turned out to be a worn camber plate. If no plates check the top hats to see if there is play where the hat slides over the strut.

the steering rack noise isnt common-

they make noise from the in-board attachments-

alot of cars are coming in with bad factory or worn aftermarket shocks-

when you replace these- also replace the strut bearings!

I had this for awhile and it turned out to be the strut tower brace mounting bolts on the firewall were loose and the bar was shifting around corners, after someone, I think it was me, took it off for something. Apparently it makes a big difference.

after reading this thread and many others, i too think it is the top hat/top strut/insulator.. i have coilovers (bilstein pss9's) and the only thing left stock is the top hat/strut. I have changed swaybar bushings and links and even had the coilovers re greased with no success.

mine comes and goes, gets better, gets worse, but atm its getting worse too. I know for a fact that the noise is coming from the top of the suspension as i have gotten someone to listen while i back out of the driveway, so its either definitely the top strut or spring bind or something hitting at the top area. Please let me know if this fixes your problem and if so i will order mine it too.. I have left this issue for far too long !

^^^I found a bad inner tie rod on the driver side also. I'm waiting for that to come in so that I can replace that and make sure the noise is still there. I'm pretty sure that the inner tie rod wasn't my clunking noise but I don't want to replace everything at one time and not give you guys bad info. I'm hoping it comes in today but there's no way to track packages from STM.
