its a timing thing, with my vacation and garage access. if it is a suspension issue and i dont fix it next week it will have to wait till june...and go through 3 track days
this parts diagram also appears different than the one posted.

i could just order 6,7, and 8, but i dont see the upper bushing listed.

After inspecting that picture in the link you sent me. I would go by the alldata picture he sent you.

Ok, pulled apart a rear strut to see what could be going on.
As far as I can tell either number 8 is missing or number 7 is too long. I measure number 7 at 39mm. If 8 is missing then the lower bushing could move around over the lip 8 would be sitting on creating a gap so the whole thing can move up and down.

i finally had two seconds to go look at it with tools. on the passenger side the upper flat washer that sits under the nut could be moved by hand...with a little effort but could still be moved.
i put about 1-1.5 turns on the nut and it bottomed out on the shaft, but the washer now does not move. i drove my route to/from work because it has one horrible road and it seems there has definitely been a decrease in the noise. but i still think i hear a little bit of what sounds like shock bottoming out/extending to its limit.
do any bump stop mods need to be done to install bilsteins? wondering if maybe someone cut something too short?
how come the mitsubushiparts.net diagram seems to have less parts showing than alldata? going by the page i provided i was thinking of just ordering #6,7, and 8 since its only like 50 bucks worth of parts.

The above pictures is exactly what my struts look like when I pulled it apart. The other link looked like it was missing parts.
Heres physically what each part there is.
1: Lower spring mount, aluminum
2: Spring
3: Dust boot, plastic.
4: Bump stop
5: Perch stop, this is what I think you're missing. Metal ring on top, plastic tube below.
6: Spring isolator.
7: Lower bushing, top hat
8: Top hat
9: Upper bushing, top hat
10: Spacer for bushings
11: Washer, edged flared up at ~30*
12: Nut, 17mm.
