PWS Delete: Remove Seals, Pack Grease...Autocross

Has anyone paired an off the shelf kit with a rack that has had seals removed and packed with grease rather than just using a kit and looping the lines?

I have read numerous threads about members with different size forearms claiming that it is/isn't an issue for DD, drag race, etc., but I can't tell that anyone has gone to the extent to remove ALL of the friction.

Any comments?

Thanks

Im in for this info too, I would love to loop the lines and call it a day but I dont want the rack to fail over time prematurely. My old friend had a gutted 1g Laser that weighed 2600lbs and he just deleted his PS and it wasnt impossible to drive but it was more difficult than Honda civic without PS. Im just thinking a EVO would be slightly harder being 300-500lbs heavier.

Im not familiar with what the lock to lock turns would be on a dsm car compared with the Evo, but I know none of this would be an issue if the Evos didn't have such a quick ratio. A great thing! don't get me wrong, but there is a lot more that would go into the effot involved than just the weight, or front end weight of the car. I remember 1st gen miatas for example were avail with and without pws and the choice setup was a depowered pws rack because it had less turns to lock than a standard non-power rack had. Those cars were light enough that simply looping the lines was still a fine fix, but I understand that the guys that went so far as to dissassemble the rack and remove the seals, really had a nice setup.

Evo just has too much nose weight to see any benefit from this IMHO. Especially for autocross.

You can always look into eps pumps and racks. What is your goal of this?

Lose power brakes before you do this. That weight is higher up and on the driver side

Ive pulled a lot of weight from my car, and more than just removing weight, I would like to eliminate some complexity, and increase steering feel. Car is autocross and track day only.

With a cast iron block ahead of the axle.. I just can't see the factory ratio working well unassisted. Maybe a slight decrease in ratio from an older model is the answer.

I had a stripped out 2G AWD DSM with the power steering removed. On 235 all seasons it was borderline tolerable daily driving. It was a PITA on tight autoX courses though. That is like a 16:1 steering ratio.

Big sticky tires and the 13:1 steering ratio of the EVO I have to think would be unbearable without power steering.
