Looking to get a new set of wheels for my evo 8 that is on coilovers. What are you running currently? What size? Just for references because I will be in the market for some new wheels in the next week. (Looking for some decent black wheels to go with my silver evo.

Very popular aggressive wheel size

This size is really a show wheel vs a true function wheel & not meant for aggressive driving unless fully clearanced which most guys do not do

You will need to do a rear fender roll / a bumper bolt relocation & a light rear fender pull to get this to fully clear the rear. 1.5 to 1.9 degrees of camber likely needed
The fronts will not need any serious work but liner rub is most often reported. Also, not sure if a front spacer is needed on this wheel

 

Gotcha, Not really trying to do any maintenance just so a wheel can clear. It was more I like the style of the wheel. What size would you recommend sticking with? Currently I just have the 17 OEM's on BC coilovers.

 

The only way to run the wider tire / wheel is to do at least a rear fender roll

After the roll is done, a basic guideline is approx: 18x9 +35 to +38
17x9 +35 to +38

Tire size approx: 255/35/18 or 255/40/17

You can consider a 9.5" wheel in a +35 offset or higher & maybe Ok w/just a rear fender roll

 

Yes I *believe* a 3mm spacer is needed for ze40

UNLESS...you install evo 10 front calipers and rotors which will allow for more clearance

 

I'll add to MinusPrevious's comment with my personal experience that 17x9" +35 to +30 on 255/40-17 can definitely clear without any mods to fenders and with stock alignment settings. It also works with coilovers and more aggressive alignment. Its pretty close to the fender at the rear, but I've never had the tires rub. If your Evo is lowered substantially, slightly more aggressive camber or more offset may be needed at the rear to clear the fender.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that offset is decreased, the propensity for torque steer and tramlining increases due to the increased scrub radius.

 

This helped a lot. Got any advise on some decent all season tires?

 

What kind of weather does Chicago get? If you drive the car year-round and Chicago gets consistent sub-zero temps in the winter, I'd be more inclined to recommend a set of summer tires on your new wheels and a set of winter tires on your stock wheels (if you still have them).
