You know I love you tephra, but it looks like most of the stock-ish cars are making peak torque of ~290 around 3500 RPM. This car makes 15-20 wtq less at that RPM, but continues to rise and rise and shoot to the moon! Seems like the red is a great compromise between power and spool.

Even comparing to this car https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...aust-test.html it seems like you are only shifting the power 500-600 RPM to the right. I realize that is significant, but 500rpm is the blink of an eye (or a proper shift ).

This is all coming from a guy who is probably abandoning his Evo IX red plans since the car has been plenty of fun on the stock turbo lately.

On pump 290ish at 3500 maybe, but this is on corn. My stocker on corn makes like 350ish on a DD at 3500

And it looks like i am topping out at 4000ish for torque at 376.

Looking back at my graph though, i never really noticed, I think my clutch slipped at max torque, so I will probably be a little higher even when I get rid of the stocker.

Gotta compare corn to corn.

Cams really aren't too bad on the X. The process is different than on the 8/9, but I think it's actually easier once you're used to both of them.

One catch, however: you should measure clearance between the valve tappets and the cam lobes. Service manual gives a procedure and a spec; if they any are outside that spec you should order the proper-sized replacement from Mitsu.
(4b11's don't have the oil-filled lash adjusters like the 4g63)

TractionLimit lucked out - his new cams were ground really well and the existing tappets weren't worn down, so clearances measured good and he didn't have to order new tappets.

Traction,

Is your driveability pretty rough when the car is cold with E-85 too? That's really the only bad part with my cams, its pretty harsh while it's warming up.

+1 Thanks again MidniteEco. Your cam install experience proved invaluable for me.

You will lose some driveability. Stop and go traffic basically sucks when trying to hold a steady 1500RPM-2000RPM. The car will buck bad. Holding a lower RPM actually isn't bad, and over 2,000 is fine. It does try to die out sometimes when on the brakes in neutral, but has never stalled.

I tested the cams along with the WGA and CAI. Between those things, peak torque comes about 300RPM sooner, and the tq curve is both broader and taller. This definitely helps spool-up a bit. That said, peak HP wasn't helped as much, and if I could do it again, I might have just tuned on E85 with stock cams first.

I haven't had them out under 55 degrees yet, so we'll soon see. I've been letting the car warm up before driving it, but they are loudest when I leave the house at 7AM .

God I know, I feel terrible for my room mate, I bet I wake his *** up everyday, buschur bullet and test pipe ftw, lol.

So you are only holding ~22-23psi at redline? Have you considered going back to ecu boost with 3 port to see if you can hold more? That doesn't seem like that much, I am pretty sure I have seen DOM2's hold more on pump, I am hoping to hold more like 25psi at redline on whatever I upgrade to.

I'm pretty much done for this year with power mods. Trans and handling are next. I agree, it could probably take more boost, but I'm more than happy with it right now. Considering my limitations, I wouldn't be surprised to see a stock block Evo X Red hit 500whp within the next year though.

451.8WHP and 432.8TQ @ 31PSI Daily Driver

FPRed ported
Kelford 214-B Cams
DW 1000cc inj.
AMS Fuel Rail
AMS inline pump
AMS MBC (all the way in)
AMS front motor mount
AMS Cold air intake
HKS WGA
UR intank Walbro kit
highflow cat
FMIC, O2 DP, CBE
ACT HDSS clutch

As you can see from this baseline the day before, bumping the boost from 25psi on 93oct to 31psi on E85 gained over 79whp and 89ftlbs:

I took it to the track last night, but the HDSS slipped pretty bad, so I left before getting a good run in. Short shifting and finishing in 5th gave me 117mph traps, so I expect mid 11s and 120s once I can get the power down. I'm also planning a final drive upgrade soon, so we decided to leave the limiter at 7900 to be safe.

I'm scared now that there's a 450whp EVO X prowling my streets!

Great numbers. Hope to see you around, I'll be the WW slow stocker getting it's doors blown off.
