Just got tuned and what a difference!

I recently went to Road Race Engineering in Sante Fe Springs. They are quite known for being Evo specialists amongst other things. They even have the original red Evo that was in Tokyo Drift there. Super cool guys and Mike (the owner) tuned my X GSR.

Attached is a chart showing my tune vs. a stock 2010(not mine as mine is a 2011 and I never dynoed my car stock and he tried to dyno my car without tune first but I had too many mods installed and it was knocking like crazy he said so we couldn't get a good reading along the full power band)

I wanted to get the most out of it for the money so my current mods are as follows:
ETS V2 Catback
ETS HFC
ETS UICP
AMS Intake w/bung
Works Short Shifter
I decided against a downpipe and FMIC for now but for the power gain I got, I feel I made the right decision.

I was told by Mike that cams and IC would be a good choice for next upgrade and anything after that will just start getting into the endless modding pit of obsession

Anyhow, I am VERY happy with how my car runs now, my only slight regret is my choice in intake. I am not bashing AMS in anyway at all as it is a quality piece and I love how it makes my car sound as well, but my car just so happens to be one of those Evos that doesn't respond as well to the intake system and as you can see the HP starts to slope down at the end. I actually got as high as 338hp on one pull and 341 tq but on different pulls. He said due to the design of the lip at the end of the intake tube (designed to hold the filter on once the clamp is tightened down) it creates slight turbulence at times and throws the MAF sensor off just enough to run rich but it's unpredictable on when it will do that. Some Evos have no problem with it, some respond horribly, mine is in the middle apparently. Anyhow, like I told him and like I will say now, I am a daily driver who just wanted a little kick to my Evo, and that's all I need... I am not a track guy (although, I may go once or twice) and honestly I don't really go aaaaallll the way to redline everytime I shift so I can't really tell most of the time. At the end of the day I am super happy with my results and this will hold me over for now. Thanks RRE!!!

Looks good!!! I have almost the exact same level of mods, I got (UR HFC and CBe and ETS intake) Good to know the ball park i would be at when i tune it.

Did you have a 3 port boost solenoid? or MBC?

I like and trust RRE, but I'm pretty sure that is just a result of having a small, stock turbo. I wish there were a boost plot.

+1 when I read that I just figured it was the stock turbo tapering off..

They upgraded my fuel pump relay (blue) and installed the RRE boost pill which allows a higher boost range and more boost at redline

@fostytou and @ugakirk.... I'm no expert by any means and you guys are probably right about the stock turbo taper, I think RRE was just telling me about the intake since it gave 3 different readings 3 different times with no changes in tune. Anyhow, it sounded much better and made more sense at the time when Mike explained it

anyhow, at the end of the day, I am very happy with my results and I would recommend them to anyone... you're right Michael, they are "top notch" and not to mention the whole crew are really nice guys! The shop is just cool to see what other projects they are working on. They actually let us go inside and check stuff out

Very nice. Good numbers there. Your mods are essentially what I plan to do to my car next spring. Anecdotally, do you feel that it feels a lot better from the "seat of the pants"? I have to assume that with this much of a power increase over stock that the car should definitely pull harder. Congrats on your mods and tune.

yea, they still have those cats all over the place! At first I thought maybe they were someones pets, but when I looked closer, they all kinda had a more of that stray/alley cat
sorta look to them.

Hey thanks! Yea I definitely feel the difference with the pull, it just feels much stronger with a more smooth and longer pull. With the stock set up, I would feel a little pull then it would taper off quicker. Well spring is around the corner, good luck to you and your new mods!! You definitely WON'T regret it, besides a tune makes your Evo run better all the way around, that alone is worth the money

nice gain in the tq area. do you feel it was worth it? how did the cams change the drivability/sound of the car?
