Mine required a bit of force, but I wouldn't pull too hard, you don't want to damage your windshield. There was no trick for mine. I just slid it up towards the headliner parallel to the windsheild (I hope that makes sense). GL

I was able to get my factory mirror off. I had never tried to remove one before, and it took a lot more force than I would have expected. I found that slightly twisting it from side to side while pulling toward the head liner helped it pop off. After I got it off, I noticed that there is a small clip on the underside of the mirror that allows it to latch onto the windshield mount to prevent it from working its way off. I imagine that twisting from side to side helped release this clip to allow the mirror to slide off (it's definitely the little clip that holds the mirror on), but it would probably be a good idea to be gentle as twisting too hard could torque the mount off the glass. I don't know if it would be possible to used a precision screwdriver or something similar to release the clip gracefully. Perhaps there is a tool for this.

Anyway, thanks for the help reber!

Could you wire this to the overhead light located by the mirror?

Also, granted this is for the Evo IX, but this might provide some general help for some:

If you want pics of the wires I'll try and get some.

And yes, you can buy them anywhere like ebay. Very easy and effective mod.

Oh and you shouldn't need the wedge mount as long as you are careful taking off the old mirror.
Could you please post a pic of the wires that were tapped. I haven't been able to find any pics of a 12v switched wire I can tap for my radar install.

Here are a few pictures of how I installed mine. I also hard wired my radar detector at the same time.

I used the add a fuse things to tap power from my fuse box. The top one has the constant power wire for the mirror and I used the power door lock fuse. On the bottom one, I twisted both the switched power wire from the mirror and the hot wire for my radar detector together and soldered them to the add a fuse wire, and I used the cigarette lighter fuse for my switched power.

This is a pretty bad picture, but what I am showing here is my ground location. I twisted both the ground wires for the mirror and the radar detector together and grounded them both to the bolt that you see here. It's the bolt that's behind the top-right corner of the fuse box access panel.

Here is a picture of the mirror and radar detector installed. Hope this helps.

That setup looks oem. I am going this route too.

Edit; if I wire up this mirror, can I hardwire my radar detector off the same wire with out overload it?

depends on which wire you pull the 12v from and how much juice your radar and this mirror takes. Most take very few amps so you *should* be ok. I'll likely be doing the same thing when I get the funds.

Same here. I also found a place that makes an AL bracket that connects to the rear mirror arm for mounting your V1. Gotta order this first, though, to measure the arm and order the right part.
