Homelink Mirror Installed

I replied to a thread in the how-to section, but figured more people would see it in the audio forum.

I also just installed this Gentex Autodimmin/homelink mirror on my evo. The homelink was the biggest feature that I missed from my BMW.

But the install was super easy, just slide the old mirror off (up towards the headliner). Slide on the new mirror, tighten the torx screw, then wire it up. Total install time was about 15 min, and 12 minutes were looking/testing for an ignition wire.

Looks great, and like markpaco said, this unit is OEM on a lot of new cars. I drive cars all day long at work, and Nissans, Hyundai, etc use this same mirror.

Here's some pics.

Now I just need to buy another hardwire kit for my radar detector so i can switch it from car to car.

Been looking for one of these; my old car had one and I have been looking for one. Where did you get it and what is the part number?

What did you tap into for your constant power? I just picked up an Azentek SmartMirror that I'll be installing this weekend.

I just ran the wires down the a pillar to the fuse box area. It was easy for me because the dealership I got the car from already had installed an aftermarket alarm that they try and get you to buy. But I didn't buy it thier alarm and so they "uninstalled" it. So power was already T-tapped and I just had to find and T-tap an ignition wire, and then ground it also obviously.

If you want pics of the wires I'll try and get some.

And yes, you can buy them anywhere like ebay. Very easy and effective mod.

Oh and you shouldn't need the wedge mount as long as you are careful taking off the old mirror.

How convenient! Did you have to remove the headliner to run the wires to the A-pillar or were you able to tuck them under? It'll probably be obvious once I'm in there doing the install but thought I'd ask.

No removal of the headliner is needed. Just tuck the wires up there, they'll stay up there. Then down the A pillar (it just pops off) making sure you route the wires behind the airbag. I'll try and take a pic of the wiring by the fuse box.

Now mount that radar detector under the mirror and run the wires the same way. Get that coiled wire off that dash!

Ordered mine...I have missed the auto dim mirror since I sold my speed6 and always wanted the home link option. This will be the best mod yet.

Is there some trick that I am missing when removing the factory mirror? Mine doesn't seem to want to just simply slide off. I've applied what I feel is enough force to get it to slide up toward the head liner, and if I apply anymore it feels like I might rip off the mount on the windshield.
