I would guess all the radar detectors draw about the same power, no matter the model/brand. I have the 9500i that I will be hardwiring also, and I doubt it will be a problem. Oh and what part of Seattle you live in? I was just up there, and used to live up in WA.

And so you know the Amp ratings for each of the fuses are stamped on the inside of the fuse box door-cover. I can post up a diagram from the Service Manual later tonight.

Once I get over my exhaust order, I'll get this mirror and try to run both the passport 8500 and mirror off the same fuse. I'll just need to hook it up to high enough rated amp.

I did that with mine. My only concern it that it now has constant power to the auto-dim feature. It has on on and off button but turns on automatically whenever the door is opened. You can switch it off manually each time but after a few seconds the LED blinks green slowly. I don't know if it is just the LED blinking or if the mirror is actually "on". I doubt it would be a significant draw but it still makes me a little concerned.

Has anyone tried this on a car that already has an autodimming mirror? I really miss my Homelink.

I'm assuming that install would be FAR easier, since there is already power run to the mirror? Is it just a matter of swapping the mirror on the mount and reconnecting the wires? Or do Homelink mirrors require something different power-wise?

Also, it looks like a couple of you used mirrors from Mazda. I have an RX-8 and can get an idea of what needs to happen by looking at that. Is there any difference between a Mazda OEM mirror versus a generic Gentex mirror from Ebay?

Like would this one be decent?

I have on my MR. Pretty easy once the wiring was probed. The oem auto dimming mirror doesn't have a connector on the other side of the harness so you need to tap the wires.

Can you be more specific? Which end of the wire did you have to modify? Do I need to run any additional wires or can I use the ones already there? And where is the other end of this harness (the side away from the rearview mirror)? Or even better, how is the OEM wire run (where does it go)?

From what I understand, the autodimming function should lose power when the car is off but the Homelink function should have constant power. Does this sound right?

I'd like to have an idea of what I'm doing so I don't get into the middle of it and realize I don't have what I need.

Any chance you could do a short write up, just of how your install differs from all of the normal Homelink install threads (from a non-autodimming mirror)? I'm pretty particular about my cars and I want to be sure I do this right the first time. Anything you can share would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd have to see if I still have one two pictures around...

I chose to use an oem subaru mirror because the compass is hidden when powered off and the compass display is amber so it matches the interior perfectly. It also happens to be less expensive when buying from subarupartswarehouse because they often have 20% off coupons. If you are not interested in the compass feature look to purchase 2013-2014 legacy/outback mirrors. You can find them for pretty cheap...maybe $50.

The autodimming mirror powers off when the vehicle is off as well as when the vehicle is shifted into reverse so you can see. The homelink mirror only works when the ignition is keyed on and the autodimming feature works the same way as the factory autodimming mirror.

Regarding the wiring: everything you need is already in the headliner. Sadly mitsubishi didn't place an inline connector in the headliner for the mirror. It is bundled with additional wires and I had no intention of dropping the headliner in order to see where it went. What I chose to do was cut off the oem connector maybe 1in from the end and butt splice the wiring for the mirror together. It's three wire: 1 acc power, 1 ground, 1 switching wire that kills power when car is placed in reverse.

PM me if you need details I could walk you through it, especially if you chose to get the same mirror.
