TSB info

No: TSB-11-54-001

DATE: January, 2011

MODEL: See below

SUBJECT:
PAIRED PHONES ARE DELETED FROM BLUETOOTH(R) HANDSFREE MODULE (NON-FUSE)
PURPOSE

Some customers may experience the deletion of all previously paired phones due to incorrect software parameters in the vehicle's handsfree module (HFM). A new HFM with improved software is available to correct the condition.

This TSB provides diagnostic steps to confirm that all phones have been deleted from the HFM and instructs dealers to install a new HFM with improved software to correct this condition.

The deletion of paried phones relates only symptom the are HFM addresses.

NOTE:
The deletion of paired phones relates only to vehicles equipped with the standard Bluetooth(R) handsfree module. If the vehicle is equipped with the FUSE Hands-free Link System(TM), this TSB does not apply.
Contacting Johnson Controls. Inc. (JCI)

Mobile phone technology is constantly changing and it is impossible for dealers to know how every phone works and interacts with the HFM. Customers should be strongly encouraged to contact JCI before the dealer begins diagnosis. JCI has extensive experience in determining if operating difficulties are related to a phone problem, or due to the customer not being familiar with the system. They can help most customers over the phone, and if they cannot, they will refer the customer to a dealer for repairs. This can prevent unnecessary replacement of the HFM.

JCI can be contacted at 888-702-4100, or through the ink at www.mitsubishicars.comlowners. Click 'Technology Features" then select Bluetooth(R). Click on 'Learn More" and navigate to the Customer Service Tab.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2007-2009 Outlander
2008-2010 Lancer
2008-2010 Lancer Evolution
2009-2010 Lancer Sportback
PROCEDURE

Determining If A Phone Is Paired.

1. Ask the customer if phones have been previously paired to the HFM.

^ If not, the customer should contact JCI for assistance. Their phone must be with them for JCI to assist them properly.
2. Confirm that Bluetooth(R) has been activated (turned on) in the customer's phone settings, and the vehicle's HFM is selected as the device to be connected. Some phones allow for several Bluetooth(R) connections, but only one device can be active.

NOTE:
The customer should navigate their phone for you.

3. Press the SPEECH button on the steering wheel controls.

The system responds "Handsfree system. Ready."

If a response is not heard, but "Listening" is displayed on the audio screen, the volume may be too low. The volume for the handsfree module can only be adjusted when handsfree is in use, and is controlled by the steering wheel mounted volume controls ONLY.

4. Say "Setup."

The system responds with a series of choices.

5. Say "Pairing Options."

The system responds with a series of choices.

6. Say "List Paired Phones."

7. If the response is "No Paired Devices," indicating that all phones have been deleted, replace the HFM (p/n 8785A028).

If the response indicates that phones are paired to the HFM, this TSB does not apply. Refer to TSB-10-54-003 for symptom specific diagnostic information.

Thanks for posting the TSB. However, during the past 12 months, I changed 2 phones and both phones had/has been experienced the same problems but I cannot actively re-create it.

What could we do?

My best advice is to keep *****ing about it. Eventually they'll replace the module.
