USB / iPod Finally Coming to Mitsu Factory Stereos!!

Looks like the RVR / Outlander sport will finally integrate USB / iPod connectivity with the factory stereo. Frankly, I'm amazed this didn't take 10 more years. This is a pretty big step up from the stereo that came in the 06 Evo IX
So.... this begs an important question. Does anyone think we will be able to easily PNP the new stereo into an 08 evo X? It looks strikingly similar.

We're going to be walking the fine line of "how much is it worth to have a Mitsubishi logo".
The entire FUSE system, for us to buy, is guaranteed to be expensive. I doubt it'll be "drop in" with the current Evo's sound system, so we'd have to hack wires and stuff anyway. We'd have to mount a little USB thing like in the picture.
A lot of work, time, and money could make it function, but I highly doubt it'll be PnP. Not to say it wouldn't be a nice looking and sounding system, but at that amount of work, you can install an aftermarket unit that has more functionality and flexibility, I'm sure.

That said, Factory Navi / base stereos have always been expensive. Its an easy money maker for the car company.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was plug and play, but I could also easily see needing to add the USB wires to the main harness. It could just as easily be a USB port on the unit itself. Adding the USB port to the cubby is trivial, and frankly I'd probably just leave it behind the dash so my pod could be in the glove box.
From what I can tell, there isn't an aftermarket dash kit that is decent. I've also grown tired of being blinded and fatigued by aftermarket stereos on dark country roads. While I can't justify the $$ for bluetooth for the few calls I make, I can totally justify iPod connectivity since its something I would use constantly.
Who knows, maybe the board was there all along, it just needed a port soldered in on our old factory setups and a software upgrade. Only time will tell.
I asked RussellM about FUSE and if it could work in the Evo X. Back on 2/5/10. Never heard anything from him...and he's usually very good about responding if something will work.

I don't get what the point of using the FUSE system is when you have the MMCS with iPod connectivity unless you crave voice control of your iPod (call my a cynic but my accent never works; must be because I'm Chinese living in Australia?!) and the only other feature of being able to call POIs on the Navi sounds a bit unnecessary especially since the Navi isn't that great to use in the first place. The only thing which screams out feature lacking is that it misses out on is the ability to watch the videos on the iPod but that's a small limitation to me...
*shrugs* Just my 2c. Rather spend cash on other mods

I spoke to MMNA on Saturday about the FUSE and backward compatibility. There are some additional connectors for this that will be included starting with the MY2011 Evolutions. Retrofitting it to an earlier X they estimated would be about 10 hours.
Of course, the other thing to be aware of is that at this moment, the FUSE is a factory-only install. They can't even order the parts to do it at the dealer. (Or so I was told.)

....although anything they can do we can do better. We can do anything better than them.
Even if there wasn't the full FUSE system, but I could easily do ipod connectivity I'd be happy with that.
I hate to post all of these since i didn't have time to decypher them. They all came from an retro 2010 fuse to a 2009 outlander thread.

8638A001 Inverter, AC - $460 List, $367. This shouldn't be needed for the install, and apparently its not that good anyway (esp for the price)
8755A032 Harness, Telephone
8755A029 Cable, USB - Hopefully just the ipod cable or a near free USB cable
8785A015 Telephone Assy $309 / $247. Not any of the PN for the current BT Kit
MN141360 Socket, AC Inverter - shouldn't bee needed, freeish socket extension for unneeded AC inverter
8755A034 Harness, Navigation Equip
Doesn't look like they have any of the main parts yet....

LOL, personally I'd say 8 years, but I'm on the forefront of wanting technology to work well... and it would be hard to integrate that into a stereo that costs $20 to produce but sells for $400
