help choosing a sub...

I want to change the stock sub... right now my set up is a jl 300/4 powering the fronts and rears all kicker components and coaxials and i have a kicker 250.2 running the stock sub all out of an alpine w505. I was considering these two options and wanted to get some opinions. I plan on putting it in the stock box for now and later making a fb box... thanks

In case it affects anything the the birthsheet on this amp is 318 and i will take any other suggestions

This might be a dumb question but why these 2 subs when there are better ones out there, for a little more $$?

I've never taken it out, but I've heard that the factory sub box isn't that great structurally. You might want to just wait until you have a new box to house an aftermarket sub.

I was just putting it in the stock box for now because even after i get the other box it will be around the same size and a 10 is what best matches the volume. these arent the only 2 subs, just some i was looking at besides maybe a w3

I will always go JL Audio. W3 is a great match for your amp.

^but not a great match for the stock box. It is VERY shallow! (unless JL makes a shallow one now???) But I put in a Rockford P3 shallow and I think the depth of that sub is like 3.5". And yes, the stock box is not reinforced very well either.

I would switch to a better enclosure right away. As far as what sub to use with the stock one try one of Kicker's shallow-mount subs. Either way I would stick with Kicker. I have installed and listened to many car audio systems and I still prefer Kicker to anything else in almost any category. The advertised power levels of their amps and the power they list their subs being able to take are both underrated, which is rare when it comes to audio. Basically their stuff can put up with a lot.

JL does make a shallow sub now, but i would recommend going with the 10W3 or even W6. W7 is going to be a little much....well a lot much.

I have been and always will be a JL user of subs. Now i have 2 12W6's and it is way to much, going to downgrade to 1 10w6 when i get the X.

I ran a 12" W6v3 and followed it up with a 12" Memphis M3. For SQ, go JL; if you want people to hear you from a mile away, Memphis.
