From what I've read, this is a common problem. I've got the same problem, but I haven't gone to the dealer to have it checked out yet. I believe they have to replace the entire Bluetooth module.

This happened to me shortly after I paired my phone for the first time. I had to restart the pairing process from scratch and somewhere during it it seemed to pick it back up, saved me from having to re enter all the phone book contacts

happend to me for a bit but my evo (phone) is rooted so I just switched my rom after a while and it's working fine so I really think my issue was with the phone but mine also kept saying paired but not connected.

Same thing happened to me once too...I just repaired the phone and all was well. It didn't lose my address book either.

Ok, so I gave it another try today and finally got it to work! (After many failed attempts in the last 3-4 months).

I paired my Iphone4 and Car's bluetooth through the usual setup. Initially, my Iphone4 saw the "Hands Free System," but was showing up as "not connected." I then went to the Navi and dialed a number manually and to my surprise it worked. My Iphone now shows the "Hands Free System" as connected.

Give that a try. I don't know how long the pairing will last, but it's been working all day.

FWIW since I got my new Android phone (EVO Shift 4G, on jan 28th) I've yet to have to reset/setup the bluetooth on my X after the first setup. My last phone was a Windows Mobile HTC touch-pro and it had to be setup every week. I gave up on it. I think certain phones work better with the X's Bluetooth.
