Bi-xenon FX-R Stage III Kit
Hi everyone,
I drive a base model NON-HID evo X.
I'm getting a pal of mine to make a retrofit for me.
He's going to be using the FX-R kit from trs.
doing a retrofit into non SSS halogen housing. He should be able to to figure it out though.
My question is.... does this mean I would have two highbeams?
One from the bixenon and one from inner halogen?
Theoretically I am thinking I will have to let the halogen highbeam wiring harness just dangle unplugged while the bixenon will do its stuff no?
How would that work?

Good question..
I always thought the SSS/MR and retrofits only had HID xenons on the outside running as lowbeams - and then halogen highbeams on the inside for all models (though I've seen dual xenon projector mods).
I could be wrong though.
ETA: Yup, I'm wrong..
Guess on the SSS/MR, the inside lamp is a halogen DRL and outside is 1 HID bulb that handles both low & high beams (by use of a moving shield of some sort).
I'm still confused about retrofits though.. seems easier to just do dual projectors and aim one lower for low-beam.

Keep an eye on this thread as well!
This kid has the same FX-R setup I will be doing.

Yeah, I've been following that thread too.
Just found these dual projectors..

Still not 100% sure of the specs or quality, but they're alot cheaper than their original design.

Actually, the way I read it.. it's designed for halogen-type cars (ie, non-SSS) - probably since the SSS HIDs would only have the one shade-adjusted bulb.
In the drop-down for their original, you could only choose to add HID low-beams (retaining the stock halogen high-beam) - on this new one, the drop-down box allows you to choose HID kits for both low-beam & high-beam.
I'm still waiting for clarification in DazhZ's thread in the how-to section (or pics from another member that was planning on installing them), but at least that what I made of it from their 1 picture & available options.
If so, around $1k for the dual-projectors, 35w low-beams & 55w high-beam HID kits doesn't seem too bad.

the e46-r shroud from the retrofit source should be near perfect when placed into our headlight assembly. For $315 for the kit, $40 for the jRox, and labor... it will still come out real good with guaranteed part quality.
I will miss the inner high-beam, but whatever.
Maybe one day we will learn how to get our daytime running lights back on.
I was interested in the lights you posted until I couldn't find out the information on the type of projectors and lenses used.
Then I was really impressed by the FX-R quality and output.
If your local to NJ I can point you toward the direction of a private retrofitter that is doing this for me.
I guarantee you that if you were to ignore where it says "Halogen Only" and purchase the other lights, they would work as well.
Remember we have people running the OEM sss lights (ballasts too) in the base model lancers with the JROX fix without any problems.

Ya, I think both of the DashZ models would work for non-SSS.. it's just the new one won't be as easy to install for guys that already have the SSS.
NJ is probably 6hr from me, which isn't too bad.. but my X is daily driven, so it would be really hard for me to have them retrofit anyway. Thanks though!
OEM SSS swap would be ideal, but the projectors are kinda expensive.. I'm not as worried about keeping DRLs, but I need to make 100% sure I'll have both low & high beams.
