Necessary to go to dealership when converting non-Nav to OEM nav

considering picking up the factory nav for my 2013 X. Looking at a unit from a 2011 I think.

Anyways....I have read some people say that you need to go to the dealership afterwards for programming....and others said they do not need to. A bit confused here.

can anyone provide a bit more info.
thanks

There are some vehicle settings that the nav can control. Necessary to have programmed? No, but why not take full advantage of what you bought and enable all the features.

As long as you do the install right, you can do it in your own garage if you wanted to. No need for a dealership for anything. "Dealer installed" has a nice thing attached to it, if the navi craps out, Mitsu cannot say you installed it wrong.

Again there are numerous vehicle settings that the MMCS can display/change from the ECU but this will only work if the MMCS is 'married' to the ECU via a MUTiii.
Youre normal nav/radio/cd will work fine regardless.

Just FYI for anyone reading this - The new 2014 MMCS lost the ability to change settings like those shown above. That whole menu with all of the customization settings is gone.

According to the manual on my 2014, the answer back signals are set through the remote.
But it says to contact the dealer if you want to disable the wiper auto speed.
(My MR has the windscreen sensor anyway. And I liked the auto speed on my old VIII.)

I gather there were other MMCS settings (e.g. maintenance reminders) that are now on the HUD and INFO button.

They may have moved some things off the MMCS when they linked it to the HERE system through HD Radio, in order to protect some company proprietary interfaces from being shared with Nokia.

The funny part is that I got a dealer rating survey call from Mitsu yesterday.
They asked if the dealer showed me how to set the clock.
Huh? You set the time *zone*. The 2014 MMCS has about a dozen time sources it could tap -- GPS, HD Radio, PBS, phone network (via bluetooth) etc etc etc.

But, thick as they are, the manuals are so riddled with nanny state Fed-isms that they're not very useful.
