HUGE developments on Ecuflash for the X {off topic content}
I will do it once the majority of the tables are defined. I already did one for the Evo 8/9.
The timing, fuel and mivec tables seem to have been defined. I suspect the next tables to be defined are the boost tables. At that point the community should have most of the tables it needs to tune an Evo X.
I am so excited about this. Once ECUflash tuning is up and running, then the tuning prices on the Evo X will drop like a rock.

ECUflash software is shareware. The tuner only pays for the Tactrix cable to read and flash your ECU. The cable cost should be around $100-120 for the X and you can use the cable as many times as you want. The Tuner will only charge you for the tune and not for a license fee because there isn't one. The tuners who are currently using ECUtek will either have to use ECUflash or drop their prices to compete. That is why prices will drop.
There are also a lot of tuners who have not bought into ECUtek. Once ECUflash is up and running, there will be more competition in the market which will drop prices as well.
Plus you can just buy the cable and alot of people are nice enough to share basic tunes with people and help them get there maps efficient. I am holding out for this program, because there aren't aby ecutek dealers close to me, so I need some sort of program to get tuned with. Sorry if that is confusing I had one to many ....
could someone explain how ECUflash work as i am a tuning cherry and I think my X I will try and tune myself....do you basically install a wide band(or get on a dyno) and manipulate a bunch of numbers to get what ever air/fuel you are tring to get.......can you see graphs and such....how does it monitor knock.......and will you be able to adjust boost with it like ECUtek......the more the detail the better and I can guarantee that I am not the only that this infor can benefit
A lot of silly assumptions are being made here, and there is way too much unnecessary bashing of EcuTeK.
When I see the Ecuflash interface, it makes me sad. Why? Because its a total ripoff of the EcuTeK interface... Again.
More on topic, $100 vs. $750 is total BS. The price difference of EcuTeK and Ecuflash is a $300 one time if you are professionally tuned. That is the cost of the license fee. The fee goes with the ECU, so once it has a license, it can be flashed and remapped indefinitely. This is to go against the idea that you only need more than just a $100 cable to self-tune. You'd need at least a WBO2, a good knowledge of what you're doing, and hopefully some dyno time. I've seen a lot of self-proclaimed Tactrix pros that got a little red faced when their cars hit the rollers.
I've paid for an EcuTeK license on my car through Dyno4mance. I spent two hours yesterday mapping my own car at Dyno4mance with their EcuTeK software and hardware. It was my second time using the software. So, since I've tuned with both Ecuflash and EcuTeK, and I can say that I like EcuTeK substantially better for the X. Here is why:
1) The maps you see in the links above are a starting point, but they have about 25% of the maps EcuTeK has right now. There is more work to do.
2) EcuTeK has live tracing for tuning. Ecuflash does not.
3) EcuTeK had logging software at launch and it is integrated into the flashing tool. Ecuflash does not have its own integrated logging tool and you have to rely on a second logging program.
Now on the case of pro tuners with dynos: These guys can use whatever they want. If they are waiting on Ecuflash, they have missed the boat on servicing the early adopters. They can pick the up at a later point, but if you want to be flashed now on Ecuflash, you're going to have to wait.
For the self DIY people, congratulations. If you refuse to have someone else tune your car, this is likely the best answer for you.
Lastly, on to the case of a "locked ECU". That's not the case with EcuTeK any longer, and even when it was on the VIII and IX, there was a simple work around early on.
If you are getting your car profesionally tuned, you have to ask yourself if a one time $300 fee is really prohibitive to getting a killer tune with all maps now available, live customer support from the UK, and much better logging? For me, it was a no brainer. EcuTeK is on my car, and will continue to be; I'm supporting the pioneers, not the imitators.

I have no problem with that whatsoever. I do have a problem with people who can't wait to buck the system (those guys making snide little comments about EcuTeK's license fee in every thread they can), or anyone who would flame one of the paying vendors on this site who are supporting their customers with EcuTeK.
I dont understand why people are so upset that there are diffrent options out there. If there was only one and it stayed only one the prices would be crazy. Competition is good and it keeps people and companies from prices gauging and that does nothing but benefit the consumer(us)
i dont hate ecutek. I was interested in it as well. unfortunately ecutek never replied back to us when we inquired about becoming a dealer, so they became a non option for us. Now we will use ecuflash instead. We're working on getting an AWD dyno and once we do we'll be looking into tuning the X more and more.

EcuFlash for the 8/9 is miles ahead of the other flash solutions on those platforms because of the open-end of EcuFlash and enthusiasts making things happen (because they are able to) that they/others wanted.
History repeats itself and I am sure in time EcuFlash for the 10 will again be miles ahead of the other flash solutions.
Indeed. Do not under estimate the power of enthusiasts, especially nerdy ones.

There will always be a place for both. I think ECUFlash is good for the DIYer and those that have limited to no access to an ECUTEK dealer. I used to have an ECUTEK flash on my STI andit was difficult finding a dealer where I lived (Oklahoma and Texas). Plus my favorite tuners where use ECUFlash.

All I can say from my perspective is that right now today Ecutek X works and it works really well. The new Ecutek X unit is the best reflash product to date by any company. It has been 100% functional and reliable.
I will not be excited to experiment with open source solutions when they come available.
Profit is the engine which drives most business's to innovate and develop new and better products.
When the market is effected with a free tuning tool most customers do not want to pay additional license fees and there is no revenue to support investment of additional resources by companies like Ecutek.
At the end of the day, it is pointless and speculative to make any assumptions to compare the two tools until they are both operational.
One they are both functional and running then professional tuners will decide which they like better and make recomendations to their customers accordingly.
I can say this, they have a free source product available for Subarus and I just dont use it. Cobb AP and Ecutek are vastly better tools on Subarus and I simply prefer to work with a high end professional application with full tech support. This is why I refuse to use the open source tools on Subaru. We'll see what happens with the X in time.
