ECU Options set #4 bit 1

Hi,

I have a 2008 5 speed GSR. About 1 year ago, I knew that there were some kind of launch control switch/table for 5 speed manual GSR. (ex. TEST&SERVICE ECU.)

BTW, as factory default, bit 1 of "ECU Options set table #4" is set to 0(5 speed) or 1(sst). So, I set the bit to 1 and tested today.

Unfortunately, all I knew from this was that the engine check lamp was turned on and some kind of unknown DTC error occurred, but the motor started as usual.

It seems not so easy.

mmm?

those bits are to determine whether you are SST or CVT or 5MT...

Oh, I see. It's just a mission type flag.

Is there any possibility that 5 speed launch control enabled/disabled bit exists somewhere in these tables? What do you think?

What do you mean by launch control?

We have a stationary Rev Limiter.

You are both saying the same thing I believe.

On the MR, I would call it more launch control as there is more then just limiting revs happening...

Hi Golden,

>What do you mean by launch control?
I mean ecu aided start by launch control like explained at below url:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Launch_...8automotive%29

Evo X GSR stock ecu has this (hidden) function. Because one of the ecu tuning menu of the TEST&SERVICE's 'fine tune ecu' for 5MT is to enable this function. So, I'm seeking the table or flag which can enable/disable the launch control function.

>We have a stationary Rev Limiter.
If the 'stationary Rev Limit' is just a rev limiter when the car is not moving, it is not the one what I want to find.

So you are looking for some sort of a function that modulates the throttle for you on launch to keep wheelspin down? (I guess it could potentially keep you from toasting a clutch too).

I don't think our cars have that function... only a stationary rev limiter.

can you give us screenshots or more info about the test-and-services menu in the MUT3?

Yes.

TEST&SERVICE is a related enterprise of Mitsu. They say that their rom has the function. So, I think it's true. (Please read the company's outline.:http://www.test-service.co.jp/modules/gmap/)

BTW, I don't know how the stationary rev limiter works. Is it just a rev limit, or has more function?

Hi tephra,
>can you give us screenshots or more info about the test-and-services menu in the MUT3?
Sorry I cannot. I don't have their rom. But please read or translate below page:
http://www.test-service.co.jp/module...oto.php?lid=22

Below is my unskillful translation:
---
【仕様】 specification
・スピードリミッター解除 unlock speed limiter
・MIVEC(可変バルブタイミング)データ最適化 optimize mivec(valuable valve timing)data
・ローンチコントロール(5M/T車のみ) launch control(only 5MT)
・アンチラグ anti-lag

Oh I see... Sorry I thought it was a function enabled in the MUTIII

That just looks like they fiddle with the stationary rev limit..

oh, you all think so. The stationary rev limit must be what I was seeking.
How is the stationary rev limit utilized for the purpose of launch control like start?(If not bother you, would you tell me?)

thank you.

It is just a different rev limiter when the car has been / and is below a certain speed for a certain amount of time and the clutch is in. It is usually set from ~5k-5500 RPM and will allow you to build a bit of boost and hold the correct revs before launching the car. Though generally not recommended, if you can properly preload the drivetrain it will allow you to basically "side-step" or dump the clutch on launch and provide for an RPM drop right to peak torque if you have the factory clutch. With an aftermarket clutch / the clutch restricter removed you will need to modulate the clutch a little more to prevent drivetrain damage. Please see a how to launch video on youtube for more information.

Hi fostytou,

Thank you very much for explaining, I could understand how it works and why it exists.

Though damage to the drivetrain concern me, it is interesting and it can be useful.

Thank you!
