Cobb AP questions...
Cobb AP questions...
I have an 08 GSR and thinking of getting a Cobb AP. The only mods I have are a 3" exhaust with cat delete, and I took out the stock airbox and threw on a K&N cone filter. I was on the cobb forums and they said that I should use the panel filter map because I still have the stock maf tubing. I know alot of people say to put back on the airbox to match exact specifications, but I really dont want to. I've ran a K&N panel before but I am in LOVE with the sound of my car with a cone on. My questions are should I use a stage 2 or a stage 1 tune? I was thinking since I have no cat that I should use a stage 2. My other question is if I only have 92 octane gas available, should I use the 91 or 93 map? And the last question is how does the stock IC piping hold up under really high boost with a stage 2 tune? I obviously have to take out the boost pill if I'm gonna run a stage 2, I just don't want any pipes blowing off under heavy boost. I plan on upgrading the pipes eventually, just not before I get the AP. Any assistance would be appreciated
Log some runs with stage 1 and check for knock. I wouldnt recommend trying stage 2 unless you have a wideband so you can monitor afr's.
Stick with the 91 maps to be safe. You can always try a 93 map, but you would really want to be logging with afr's to make sure youre not knocking/running lean.
Your stock IC piping will be fine for now. You can always spend the $50 or so for someone to do a boost leak test.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I plan to follow your advice. But I have to figure out how because I am an EPIC noob when it comes to tuning. I wouldn't know a log from a log (the tree kind) if you put the two next to each other so I'm gonna have to do some research.
The search feature will be your best friend! Play around a bit with what you search for and you can usually find what you are looking for. Theres also a sticky thread all about the AP which will have tons of info.
Test Pipe = Stg 2, but a wideband is definitely a good idea first. you can probably find one for around $150 or less used around here, but MAP is selling them for like $160 right now I believe, so make that a priority.

The stage 2 should be fine since you deleted a cat. You will need to closely monitor your short term fuel trims and long term fuel trims in the Live Data option on the AccessPORT.* I would recommend checking those fuel trim values at idle, while cruising on the freeway, and very light acceleration.* If you add your short term and long term fuel trims together the sum should be within about -8% to +8% with the closer to zero the better

Word
We haven't any problems running the stage 2 boost levels with the stock IC piping.
