Live tuning - User feedback question!

No I dont have a beta - sorry for the misleading thread title!

In the EvoX/RA ECU part of the RAM block is protected by a method called "RAM BACKUP" basically this means that part of the RAM is battery backed.

This allows some stuff to be saved even when the ignition is turned off. (ie Fuel Trims)

Now unfortunately the size of this block is fairly limited. It is also fairly fragmented, meaning its hard to find a large contiguous free block.

My question is:

For live tuning, would people prefer to be able to key off the ignition and have the memory maps saved? Or can I just go and use the non-battery backed RAM - which is a lot easier...

This will mean that if you are "Live Tuning" and you turn off the ignition and don't turn it back on with 10 seconds you will loose your LiveTuned maps... (Of course they will be saved in the Client App)

Thoughts?

From a use-ability perspective it might be cool/nice to have the LiveTuned maps saved.

But from a safety perspective it might be best to dump them and load up static maps.

Does the M32R only backup a part of the RAM as a result of its design?

Yep..

So only the first 4 or 8k is backed up, even though there is 64k.

Depends on the actual M32R chip (since there are lots of different specs) - thought

Ouch. Found this:

"In RAM backup mode, parts of the internal RAM are retained while the power is turned off. RAM backup mode is
used for the following two purposes.
RAM backup area for the 32192 is from H'0080 4000 to H'0081 3FFF (64KB).
RAM backup area for the 32195/32196 is from H'0080 4000 to H'0080 7FFF (16KB)."

when I first started doing Evo stuff (2-3 years ago now... seems like a lifetime) I thought about doing autotune.

it wouldn't be too hard, but in the end I decided it wouldn't offer much over manual tuning... depends how full on you go I guess

Tephra, I would just use the volatile part of ram and let it get erased with power off. There is no real need to do Live Tuning by turning the car on and off.

+3? I think anyone that wants to save their tune wouldn't mind saving it locally on their laptop anyways first, then burn it to the ECU once they were satisified after tweaking in live tuning mode.

ok almost ready to test out my very first alpha version..

here's hoping the ECU doesn't **** itself... otherwise i will have to bench it lol..

no checksum'ing yet, so I wont be driving it - just idling.

my first use of this will be ECO tuning for MIVEC:

YES ITS FUGLY!!! but hey its only an Alpha, functionally then beauty

I also want to put a logging/charter down the bottom - so you can chart changes in various things, ie IPW (for Eco tuning)

Nice. I've wanted realtime tuning for the exact same reason, mivec econ tuning while driving down the road at highway speeds.
