Break in and tuning
Break in and tuning
Sorry guys, I'm full of questions, give me a few months and I will be answering questions for people.
First is do I need to break in my 2012 GSR? I have been staying under 5000 rpm like the manual stated but people tell me breaking in is old theory. If I should break in what is the plan? Change the oil after 1000 miles?
Second question is, will a tune help on a stock Evo? I have read some people saying you should tune even if you haven't done anything. Will there be any benefit?
Last but not least, anybody in the southern California area that knows of a good place to take my Evo when I want a tune or other mods done?
Thanks

Do you need to break it in? Probably not.
Does it hurt to go ahead and follow instructions and break it in? No.
...I would juts break it in like it says.
First oil change at 3k should be fine, then every 5ish if you're staying with synthetic and not racing.
A tune will help even a stock Evo, plenty of benefit to be had. It's very rich from the factory.

Just drive it normally, you don't need to do anything special. Just try to do a lot of engine braking (while driving and coming to a stop or slowing down, leave the trans in gear and just let off the throttle, let the engine do the braking and slow the car down, but use brakes if you need to slow down fast obviously). I would change the oil at 1000 miles, put synthetic in it, get it tuned (even if it's stock, the stock tune is garbage), then give it hell and drive it like you stole it, lol. 1000 miles is plenty for break-in, just get that original oil out of there.

Hm. I just got a 2012 and found the break-in info. It was hard to find in all the reading material. I just kept mine under 5K RPM... which makes shifting feel tough at lower RPMs.

2. Yes! Tune soon! or wait until your first oil change. I got a tune with HFC,CBE,Cosworth Filter, and 3-Port right away (around 1500 miles). A tuned EVO X is a whole new beast and you'll be happy you did.
3. Easy, take it to RRE.
I see you're in Irvine so it's not much further from where I'm at in Orange.
