HELP! Dealer reprogrammed ECM WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME!!!

Yes I took my custom tuned car to the dealer, requested just an oil change. (I know, F**K ME RIGHT? Lesson learned) Dealer proceeds to reprogram ECU for SC-13-004 which ostensibly resets a torque threshold to not trigger a warning light. (Did not know they would do this) However, this also appeared to screw up my tune. (I would have thought the dealer would have asked before touching the ECU?!?!?!) Before I was tuned on a grimmspeed EBC to hit 24.5 psi and 11.6 AFR. Now it is hitting 27 psi and 12 AFR (OMG nooooo!).

Then I think, Eureka! This is a custom tune from AMS that is stored on my Cobb AP! All I have to do is uninstall the AP, then reinstall, flashing to my custom AMS tune. That should get me back to how it was before. Alas, I uninstalled, reflashed and still the tune is screwed up. How is this possible? Whatever is stored on the AP should override whatever the dealer did right? Now I am freaked out, I have a EBC on the car and I have no idea what the tune is doing any more.

Also, pushing in the clutch and coasting, the car will bounce around from 600-1,200 rpm several times. Seems like it bounces to 1,200 rpm, cuts the fuel (AFR gauge shows 18+ for a second), then fuels again to get the rpms back up to 1,200. Very strange.

I have sent a note to AMS as well.

They reinstalled the stock flash to your car and it erased your tune. You will need to AMS to reinstall your tune.

Why didn't you save the tune after AMS finished the car?

Yeah, I have it on my AP. Not sure why reflashing doesn't work. I had the custom tune on the car when it went to the dealership, and I assume the dealer thought the stock tune was on the car. Very incompetent of them to make that assumption. Not sure what the dealer did, could their reprogram over the top of my tune have messed up the ECU, regardless of how many times I reflash? Hopefully AMS will chime in.

Oh and on the campaign notice for the ECU update I see at the bottom it says, "Always get the customer's approval before completing a campaign." Dealer gave me no indication that they were going to do this. At this point the dealer can't really undo what they did, when I talk to them tomorrow how should I handle this? I don't really care if they know my car is tuned. But if I have to drive 3 hours and get the car retuned and pay $300 bucks I will be rather upset. They performed unapproved maintenance on my car when it explicitly stated that I was to be asked first.

They should be held responsible for your costs to repair your car.

I had a chat with the dealer. I talked to the service rep and the service manager. They are 100% not supposed to touch the ECU without explaining the update to the customer. They are also required to get customer consent before modifying the ECU. The rep/tech that handled my oil change circumvented this rule. On my invoice it even said "customer stated perform ECM update". I NEVER STATED ANY SUCH THING! I never even received a phone call.

The manager acknowledged that they were in the wrong and indicated they would help fix the problem. I told them that I would talk to my tuner and investigate the problem and get back to them.

All that being said I have a better idea of what may have happened. The tech attempted the reflash but was locked out and failed to update my ECU, this was due to an aftermarket tune already present. I am guessing that the learned parameters were reset though. Then after I tried to reflash later they were reset again.

I have driven the car lightly for 15 miles or so and the fuel trims when back to the 5-8% range. The idling issue seems to have mostly disappeared. I tried a few 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear pulls. The AFR's are under 12 now, more in the 11.5-11.7 range, which is what the car was tuned for. It pulls hard and knock sum looks to be in the 0-3 range. The only thing still wonky is the boost. I have seen peaks of 25.5-27.5psi. The car should be seeing 24.5psi. Maybe I will take a few logs this weekend and email AMS just to be safe.

Even if the dealer didn't do any real permanent damage, they deserved to get lectured. Shame on them for being dishonest and trying and push through warranty/recall work. Once I called them out, at least they weren't D*cks.
