Need help with intake options

Okay so getting ready to put the evo up for the year. And plan on buying some things for it to do to it while I have it garaged. Looking at intake options.

I was gunna go with ams intake just for example, there are short intakes, reg length intakes, and different diameter intakes as well. Question is, pros and cons vs 2.5 inch intake bs 3.5 inch intake and short ram or long intakes? Would it be more beneficial to get a bigger diameter short ram intake to keep as much hot air out vs getting a reg length 3 inch intake?

I'm 99% sure all the intakes are 3" or larger. Can't go wrong with ETS or AMS. I also like STM's intake that uses the large velocity stack. the short ram intakes all put the filter where the factory airbox is, the "cold air" or "long" intakes remote mount the filter in the fender well. I'm much for a fan of the short rams since there is much less worry of the intake ingesting water.

I believe that's the one I was looking at. Also I've heard that the intake doesn't really help much after a tune is that true? And a lot of people have just put in a panel filter and tune. Asking because I already have a tune on the evo. And would the evo would actually benefit from having a whole new intake as well. Also did it just go on sale because I did see it for $300 other day. Maybe next year I have a plan to switch it to e85 so in addition to that would a new intake be necessary? I've seen a few people running evos with stock air intake with a new panel filter.

Every little bit helps more and more. The tune is your biggest single gain on the stock turbo though. You would see a gain from the intake for sure.

It was just on our daily deal which changes every day. It will probably come up again at some point.

The intake isn't really ever required until you are around 450-500+ WHP and you cap the MAF sensor. Every little bit helps in getting the most out of the stock turbo though. The difference between a stock Evo with a tune and FBO is about 50-60WHP.

Cool yes I just snagged it as well. Looking at other things also. Possibly a boost controller to run along with it.

As of now there are rims and tires. Top pro 1 catback with cat delete. Tune and this intake. Possibly the boost controller. Any other things I could do to squeeze out a bit more power? I'm pretty sure this tune is rich rich because I blow huge fireballs and flames from the tailpipe lol and my car is always dirty asf in the rear from it.

Intercooler and UICP would be my next step. The boost controller really helps smooth out the boost control.

That does sound like a rich condition.

Ok. I has plans on replacing the uicp soon. But I've done some reading and a lot of people really only replace the lower pipe because that's where you get the gains from? But ive see a lot of people also replace the uicp as well from pics I've seen. Also I've read that the stock intercooler is sufficient up until you replace and go with a bigger turbo? I dont want spend the money on a new intercooler if its not entirely needed at this time. But I have no problem with replacing the lower and upper pipes. Also I'm looking at a boost controller. Gs 3 port any good. ? There are so many mixed reviews about that and others out here. Other then a dyno tuned tune on this car, would it benefit any to buy a tuner ? If not ill stick with a tune from the shop over a tuner like Cobb.

The UICP is the important pipe on the Evo X.

We have seen gains over the stock IC. Stock IC might be okay for 1 or 2 pulls but it will heat soak.

GS 3 port is what I would recommend.

I prefer the open source tuning on the Evo X platform personally.

I agree - go with opensource tuning and logging.

Ok. Well I will be buying a boost controller. Also i am looking at uppers atm, and for example ets offers a wrinkle black uicp. While ams offer the same for 299 and a polished on for 250. What the difference between a black and a polished? Are there any pros to getting just a wrinkle black one vs polished? I kind of want to stay with ets just for the fact that I've already bought a few ets brands. And if I do change my ic it will most likely me a ets one.

Well I have left over ETS intake, upper IC pipe and lower IC pipe with all of the clamps and couplers if you want them, but you will have to pick them up. I'm down towards Columbus in Lewis Center. I don't need them anymore since I've swapped for an EFR9174 upgrade. I can clean it up and take a pic so you can see what's what. Just give me what you'd want for it, I don't care.
