didnt read the whole thread but is there any other way for you to discover this problem w/o goin under the car? i mean the dealership should be finding these problems out when you take your car to be serviced.

Service should find it if you let them do the oil change. Oil pan and plastic piece underneath should be covered in oil. That right there should alert them. Gotta remember a new car should not be leaking oil like this. It should be dry underneath with no leakage, period.

Hey I donno if any of you have herd this but it may be way more serious then just a leaky cover.

This weekend I took the turbo out of our EVO X to install in ETS down-pipe and Turbo Manifold. When I pulled the cover I notice this similar oil leak all over the transfur case and engine and we only have 6700mi. Upon taking the turbo out I notice that only one of the bolts that held in the turbo return line was in. Its a 2 bolt flange with a gasket similar to what you would see on a Garret turbo. Well only one was in and it was slightly clocked off and all the the oil leakage I could find originated from that point. The gasket was half blown (saturated with oil on both sides and it explains the locating because it flows down the return line which run right between the transfer case and engine. Its also completely impossible to access or see with the turbo in the car.

This is very serious and I suggest some of you that are leaking at a faster rate have this checked out.

We are going to get a new gaskets and I got another bolt but there would have been no way to find that wth out taking the turbo out so those that have this issue and haven't found the solution should have they dealer look at this.

BIG BOO BOO!

My car is at the dealer right now. Spotted some oil drops on the garage floor for the first time today and when I pulled the small cover off underneath the sump drain plug, oil streamed down. It must have pooled on the cover then started overflowing on the floor. At first I thought the tech did not put a washer on the drain plug or cross threaded the plug after the last oil change. But, the service supervisor and tech think it's leaking from the sump gasket, so they are replacing that, now. Will keep an eye on it in the next few weeks...

Sigh. There's something going on with these nuts and bolts coming out on the X. I've got a couple that simply will NOT stay put.

I'm watching the oil pretty closely. Exhaust leaks I can deal with, but oil leaks are bad.

Did the shop find and fixed the oil leak on your car? Where was it?

My car is back, it's still leaking oil, obviously it was not the oil pan gasket.

Turns out there is a TSB: TSB-08-11-007 - OIL LEAK FROM TIMING CHAIN CASE - Issued October, 2008 for engines built prior to April, 2008.

Updated to remove crappy images, tsitalon1 is hosting the link.

Wow that has to be the sloppiest TSB repair I have ever seen. Lets just slap a crap load of sealer over the area and hope it doesn't leak. Give me a break! The cover needs to be removed and the whole thing re-sealed. Where the Timing chain cover meets the head/block sometimes there is "gaps" where the head to block aren't flush. When the cover goes on there can be a gap causing the leak. The only right way to fix this is to remove the cover completely and re-seal it adding an extra bead of sealer where the head to block meet. I worked for Toyota and we had this same problem.
