Nisei Pipe Kit/AEM Intake help!
Nisei Pipe Kit/AEM Intake help!
so i had my aem intake already and just got my nisei pipe kit and installed everything. now my car sputters and seems like its not holding boost. i can hear the spool very loud, but doesn't really wanna go anywhere.i talked to keven at nisei and he told me to just let the 2 lines coming off of my boost solenoid hang. (the 2 hoses that go into 1 hose)
would that be the reason for my sputter? or maybe something to do with my bpv? antyhing would help as i'm clueless on why its doing this. car was fine with just the aem intake so the only thing that changed was the pipe kit w/perrin ic. tia

this pic is for reference. not my car.

Well, there's a good chance that you have a boost leak at one of the couplers in your pipe system. Go back and loosen, realign, and tighten everything up again and it'll probably be resolved. Oh and no, the bcs lines left hanging would have no effect on this. All those do is vent boost pressure from the solenoids that would otherwise get sent to your wastegate. The only reason that they were attached to the original factory intake is for emmisions purposes.
Since those gases contain blow by gases and very small amounts of oil vapor, it's not environmentally responsible for a manufacturer to vent to atmosphere thus why they run it into the intake to be recirculated. The amount of air that comes out of those lines is tiny anyway, so I don't think it would really affect your air fuel ratios. Again, look for leaks, that's culprit number 1. If you are using tbolt clamps, just tighten until the clamp is wrist tight, don't crank down on too hard or you'll pinch the hose and create an opening where the hose forms a "tent." Report back after you check all of your connections. Hope this helps.

It definately sounds like a boost leak......... The reason that vehicles with Mass Air Flow Meters sputter is that any air that passes through the MAS will get a proportionate amount of fuel injected into the engine. So if there is a boost leak, when the air passes through the MAS, the injectors squirt fuel into the engine, but if the air doesn't get to the engine ( boost leak ), then the car runs really rich and typically sputters and bellows black smoke that you should be able to see in the mirror. We would recomend rechecking all of the clamps, and make sure that the clamps are just behind the bead and not any more than 1/8" back from the bead, as if the clamps are too far back, the coupler can expand and the pipe can move, or even blow off. Also, don't worry about the hanging boost solenoid lines, they do not vent enough air to matter, as the poster ^^ above said.
Hope this helps

i have those 2 hanging and i have no problems. like everyone said check all your couplers make sure they are tight, those t-bolt clamps are kinda tricky. before you put the bumper back on 2-step the car so it builds boost, to make sure there are no leaks.
kimletrim: the x does use a maf to meter the air, the map sensor is to control boost. so the x has both

yup! you guys are right. my lower ic pipe was not tight enough. changed all my clamps to the t bolt clamps and used a longer coupler for my upper ic pipe that connects to the ic. thanks for everything!
