What are the Signs of a clutch going bad?

Hey,

I just started feeling a hesitation in engaging 1st gear when my steering is turned and I am starting from a stop. I can actually hear noises that are not too good or familiar. Is this a sign of the clutch going bad. This happens only when starting from a standstill on the first gear with my steering turned, like turning right at a stop sign.

I have also noticed that the general noise level in the car has gone up. Anyone know what this might be?

Please also post what other indicators can be used to identify if a clutch is beginning to go bad.

some signs:
"smelling" clutch during/after hard acceleration

RPM's climbing rapidly, and MPH not climbing as fast as it should (or at all)

the vehicle doesn't move when in gear and seems to free rev.

what your experiencing is a 2.0L engine with LOW compression trying to perform a heavy load.. haha, use more gas pedal and slip the clutch a bit for a smoother start, sounds like you're a hair away from stalling it.

I already have 14000 miles on the car and I am pretty good with starting from a stop. I barely even hear the dash rattle. I am pretty sure I am good on that part. What worries me is it happens only when the steering is turned. If I am starting from a standstill, going straight, I do not see this. I have however noticed that the engagement has become a little abrupt since this has shown up.

The car is 100% stock, no aftermarket parts in it whatsoever. I might have to take it to the dealership to show them. It is repeatable and definite.

Anymore advice is appreciated.

By the way, I am definitely not seeing those issues that you posted ^^.

here's what you do, get on the high way going say, 50 mph, put it in 5th and floor it see if your RPM's climb "too fast"

when you start the car from a dead stop, with the steering wheel turned it takes a TON more power to move the car when compared to the wheels being strait.

if you want proof go try to push the car when the wheels strait in Neutral, then try it with the wheels turned.

I'm about 85% sure its what I said it was ,, I have 18,000 miles on mine and no clutch issues (generally if its a "weak" clutch from the factory it will go out before 4k miles, and if its a weak clutch from abuse, you'll already know that you caused the damage because you drive it hard)

so are you driving it exceptionally hard? maybe launching at high rpms or slipping the clutch wayyy to long? if not, then its because of what I said

Sorry to bring up a dead topic. But I had an update on this problem. The problem finally got diagnosed as the lower engine mount bushing gone bad. Apparently the transmission side mount and passenger side engine mount are also going bad. Mitsubishi has already replaced the trans mount. With a little back and forth discussions, I was able to have warranty cover the other 2 mounts as well. As of now, the problem still persists since the main culprit is a crack in the lower engine mount bushing.

Car is bone stock and I am guessing that's the reason Mitsu is even entertaining my warranty claim. Still waiting for the other 2 mounts to arrive. The problem has got worse since I first posted the problem, so I am just keeping it in the garage until I can get it fixed. The sound and vibration sensation was coming from the cracked surfaces of the bushing rubbing against each other when turning, mainly from the lower mount.

I still don't understand how all three mounts went bad. One theory is that the lower mount went bad first, and as a result of added strain on the other two mounts, they started going bad too. Any more theories? Hope I can avoid this in the future.
