HKS intake install

Just installed my HKS super induction kit. Everything seems to be working well, except for when I step on the gas all the way.

It seems to be spooling up alright, and as soon as the boost kicks in it takes off really great. Then all of a sudden it chokes, and then boosts hard again. It seems to only do this for gears 1 & 2.

Any ideas?

Btw, the only things I got installed is the HKS kit and and ARC intercooler. All hose clamps appear to be fastened very tightly as well.

vacuum leak sounds like go back and check all the lines to the intake and check all the clamps. might look tight but could be loose.... just double check everything

make sure you have everything that goes to the inlet pipe installed as it should, and all the clamps are tight. if you installed the hose clamps using a flat head, i suggest using a socket wrench or a wrench instead.

by the way, what does it look like?

Did you seal the MAF to the intake pipe, it's not a great fit imo

Update: Just talked to the guys at HBSpeed, and they think the intake is causing the engine to run too lean. The sudden cutoff of power is likely a cpu self-defense mechanism to reduce chances of damage to the engine.

I would think the car would just go into limp-mode instead of doing what your car is doing. Who knows.

Most likely running too lean due to the intake.

The car won't go into limp mode, it'll just studder and it'll feel like you hit a temporary wall.

My HKS was fine on my standard tune, even when I added a test pipe and exhaust it didn't cause any issues.

well i'm gonna re-install again tomorrow. Just doesn't make sense though. There is no need from pressurizing this area of the system. You could very well just take the damned thing off and it should run fine, other than getting crap into the engine.

Ya know?
