No news. Just driving. It doesn't blow any smoke. The plugs looked ok when I pulled them. I may do another compression test just to make sure my engine was hot enough since the #s seemed a little down. That's it as of now.

Seems like an unusual change in the condition. Didn't you say before that you actually had a bent spark plug electrode at one point and a whistling turbo?

Not to be a jerk to the OP or anything, but could it be that maybe the dealer diagnosed this correctly and all is well now?

I had quite a few bent spark plugs. Turbo does make a slight whistling sound. I still have to get my paperwork which states all the tests run on my car. Other than that the car has its power and seems to be normal. Plugs looked fine as they appeared clean and there was no sign of being oil soaked or anything. Compression is not that varied between cylinders. No smoke upon acceleration so at this point I am just driving it. I have a 5 year 60k drivetrain warranty.

I welcome all opinions. Could it be that the dealer correctly diagnosed this and it is fixed? Possibly. Time will tell.

I am not saying either way, just didn't want you to take that the wrong way. Some dealerships do have good people, a lot don't.

The suckiest part is that now with this uncertainty you can't mod because if you had to go back they would blame the mods for sure.

im pretty sure they didn't diagnose this correctly. I had the same symptoms and i boroscoped it myself and found #4 piston had a missing chunk and #2 was chipped. I have pics on here. As soon as the turbo was pulled off all turbine blades where bent and chipped.

I havent read the prior 19pgs on this thread, but have you had the chance to use a borescope on that cylinder killing that spark plug? There maybe pieces of piston physically closing that gap..

Hi, sorry to dig up this thread - but have a related question.

I've been having similar issues with the misfire, car bucking, running like **** etc. CEL says cylinder 3, I pull spark plugs out on 2 and 3. They're both really black, very wet, and smell like fuel, starting half way up on the thread down to the tip. Is this normal? I never really paid attention to what a healthy spark plug would look like... Does this mean their fouled?

I'm ordering new ones, but just wondering if this is a sign of things to come...

Thanks for any info, and OP - hope everything's going ok, any updates?

my spark plugs were never wet....just had the gap closed like something hit it.

Dry and wet fouling
Fouling, either dry (top - matt black, sooty) or wet (bottom - gloss black, sticky),

Can be caused by many different conditions. Carbon deposits build up when the plug fails to fire correctly and burn them off. Air/fuel mixture too rich, choke stuck on, electrical problem, extended periods of low speed driving, plug heat range too cold. All should be investigated

Thanks for the info! I think I have been running rich, and have also been doing a lot of low speed, stop & go driving lately.

I'm gonna do some more diagnostics today, and if I can't figure it out will take to a shop.

Thanks!

no prob...something isn't right for sure. i was thinking a leaking injector but it would prob only be in one cylinder not 2.

what mods you have?
i would put them back in and take to dealership.

I have the same problem, I changed the fuel pump relay after extensive checks on everything. Tested the relay to find that it was sticking then not closing causing no fuel at higher rpm's or under load.

Is this an issue predominantly effecting 2008's, or have 2010's been equally plagued by the ring issue? If it is limited to 08's, is it possible Mitsu is aware of the problem and fixed it but never issued a recall?

+1 to TTP for getting the diagnosis right from the get go. Nice job.

This thread almost made me lose my lunch; disgusting.
