Has anybody tried this on the EVO X?

My exhaust setup consists of Rexpeed o2 downpipe and ultimate racing mini muffler test pipe and stock cat back.....this thing is FREAKING quiet! no lies, it sounds just like stock, maybe even quieter...that mini muffler really helps keep the volume down....

We all know that the stock catback on an EVO X is a restriction....about 15whp right there....I was thinking about it...instead of dropping big bucks on a full catback....could I just drop the mid pipe (intermediate pipe) and let the exhaust gases dump straight from my ultimate racing mini muffler? Of course, I'll leave my stock muffler section on so I won't attract too much attention

I am not sure how loud it will be....if it sounds acceptable, I might just run this setup and get my free 15whp....but my main concern is how safe will it be? I looked under the car and I don't see anything within the vicinity of the test pipe...so that means hot exhaust gases won't flow directly onto sensors or brackets and potentially damage anything....I do see my rear diff being about 3 feet away but not directly on the exhaust stream....could this potentially create problems? Melting my diff housing? I was also thinking of putting a custom straight pipe with resonator and have the end pipe pointing downwards...that way I know for sure I won't break ****

Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

I had my exhaust come apart behind the cat on the dyno. It was louder but not as much as I would have expected. The most obvious thing was how noxious the fumes were. You could see it coming up from under the car and filling the rear wheel wells. You'll definitely be smelling exhaust when sitting at a stop light.

When the midpipe was disconnected it hung down a few inches due to the weight...facing forward. You couldn't leave it on there disconnected or it'd be an accident waiting to happen, even if you found a way to tie it up there.

A custom exhaust is a better idea.

what would hang down a few inches? I know the cat, test pipe is held on by an exhaust hanger....and the OEM muffler would be held on by hangers too...

Exhaust gas is poisonous. That is why every car on the market has an exhaust pipe venting out at the back of the car. Some specialist race cars vent out the side but they are usually in the domain of trained people that know wtf they are doing. This is a crazy, dumb idea.

Yea I would not recommend doing this. It wouldn't be safe having the fumes exiting under the middle of the car. If anything have a shop weld up a custom exhaust.

meh, i've ran a catless dump that dropped right below the front seating compartment for years (on a different car, same concept)...no "obnoxious" smells that people complain about. those that complain about the fear of the smell, usually never owned a "straight dump" setup.

i liked mine. toss a high flow resonator on if its too much to your ears.

wouldn't recommend it.... just go 3" from your DP back no resonators, no cat. youl love it.

This is the route I'll be taking... ETS turbo back with no mufflers or cat to quiet anything down. I think he just has a single resonator. ETS made a post about it on the forums here a while back. I did this on my 1G DSM. I just had a muffler shop weld a pipe that turned it so it came out just before the back passenger tire. 90% of the time I have my windows up (and always had the passenger window up) so I never even noticed it. The only thing I would worry about is heat under the floor boards transfering to the car. I've heard of guys melting carpet with exhaust too close. If you wrap it with exhaust wrap you will be fine. I think an EVO would look bad with exahust running out through both side skirts like some of the mustangs do.

Last, some states say that the exhaust has to exit the vehicle where it originally did from the factory. AZ was like that and didn't pass my inspection because I put side exits on my vette.
