You should make sure for yourself that you don't need to. Wideband and logging capabilities are your friend.

you shouldn't have to....but its better to be safe than sorry....so hook up a boost gauge and a wideband o2 to check things out....if you are not running lean or overboosting....you'll be fine

btw I had cobb intake, ets 4 inch fmic, ets ic pipes...un tuned....the car ran like a champ and no overboosting or lean....results will vary though

im in a similar situation, steven 88 you had an aftermarket intake without a tune and you didnt have any overboost or boost cut offs?

YES, absolute answer if you did a search before posting this.

The intercooler is going to cause a change in the operating temps and all which will change AFRs. Technically speaking, to get the full benefit of those mods..get a tune. Look up tuning shops in your area for Evos or perhaps think about email flashes through someone like Mellon.

significant changes to airflow are going to put you into a different load column which will most likely have different AFR and Timing values so most likely the tune is going to drift. If you want to get the most from your mods then a re-tune is a good idea.

If you want to get the most out of your car, yes a tune is good.

Do you absolutley, positively NEED a tune with a bunch of bolt ons? No, not at all. You'll be just fine having fun in your car with all the bolt ons and the pig rich stock tune.

If you want to get the most out of your mods a tune is required. We ran our car with no tunning and made good power.

the tune didn't result in much more power, but it did result in a bit more torque

Thanks!

Michael

true i've seen some x's come to me and put down 300awhp and 300tq just with intake, exhaust mbc even with the AFR in the 9.5 Area but they also had knock. So while it did make decent power, they bucked some during the pulls and had some knock. After the tune they are silky smooth at a much better AFR and tend to pick up another 40/40 or more without knocking.

We never had a problem with knock using 92 octane. We have seen a problem when customers upgrade to an intake that doesn't utilize the stock MAF housing.

Thanks!

it probably also depends on which ROM they have from the factory.

This was ROM ...17 2008 X with tbe, fmic, pipes and intake from a customer that came this past Saturday

originally untuned and running 9.5 AFR and 4 counts of knock at high rpm, now a good AFR and no knock. I probably could have eeked out more peak tq/hp but the goal wasn't for it to be a 3rd gear dyno queen so we made sure it was clean on shifts after rowing through the gears many times. I'd say it's worth tuning.

If you change anything related to the MAF housing or the component right before it, you should retune. The reason is that those changes effectively change the calibration of the MAF, which will throw off the tune.

Didn't want to start a new thread for a quick question. I will be purchasing an ETS Intercooler with LICP and UICP, and I will be installing it myself. Question is after the install, if my car has a lumpy idle is it ok to drive it to a tuner say 45 minutes away? Car has intake and exhaust and MAP 02 dump already with AEM wideband, boost gauge, and Oil pressure gauge. Thanks!

Probably what I would do if I was afraid, is to set up an appointment to the tuner, get there early, put on the parts, then tune.
