what drop-in filter?

Hey All,

So I feel like a filter change is in order.

What are peoples recommendations.

Do Amsoil do a drop-in for the X? I know their cones are thought well of (in terms of filtration + flow)

Cheers
D.

Like my K&N...

I know you don't want an oiled one, but I have had this on the car for 15-20k miles and not a single MAF failure, still running on the original MAF.

Plus I believe the K&N has been a "supporting mod" on a few moderate to high HP builds (using memory)

tephra we do have a drop in, it is a WIX panell filter, but no one has tested it so i cant compare it to K&N and others.

this would be a dry filter not oiled

Cosworth makes a non-oiled filter.

I've run Perrin since the car was practically right off the showroom floor. Did a back to back dyno test with it vs. the stock filter on the stock tune. gained 10whp and 13wtq. hasn't given me any issues with oiling, etc. yet. has been on the car for 19k miles.

Your options are limited for non-oiled drop in filters, most of them are oiled. Any particular reason for not wanting an oiled one?

I don't want an oiled filter because:

1) extra maintenance of the oil
2) oil'd filters are illegal in Australia
3) associated MAF problems

Hrmm... I might see if I can find a amsoil one locally...

tephra i had first the hks drop in air filter its none oil filter after 1,000miles i checked the maf housing and it had a layer of dust not that much but still there doesnt have to be dust in there,so then i went with the works drop in air filter its an oil filter but this filter after 2000miles had a small amount of layer of dust inside the maf housing so i was like wtf?
so i checked a normal lancer that my wife has it has the oem air fliter and to my surprise it also has the the small layer of dust but this filter has never been changed it has 20,000miles on it so i dont know if this is normal that all filters on cars pass a small amount of dust or what?
so i went back and put the oem air filter in my car iam gonna check it at 1000miles and at 2000miles to see what happens,
using DLL i got 10whp using the after market air filters.and bov sound was great

yeah well thats the diff between a good and bad filter...

good filter = max flow and max filtration
bad filter = max flow and low filtration

^ for a street/daily drive anyways..

anyone have access to a lab that they could test filtration/flow on various filters? hehe
