well it wasnt the parts that were exspensive it was the labor, just because the X is set up differently. the trans is set up like a front wheel drive car, its positioned sideways. so labor was about 8-10 hrs for install. so labor was about 1/3 the cost.

people have told me that the stock clutch that comes in evo's are the Exedy stage 1, thats why they go out so fast because they are worthless. at least. thats what I hear. With that said my stock clutch going out at 18k miles. its easy to agree with them with how fast mine went out. =(

i have 15k on mine and it smelled real bad today. i was at a stop light going up a super steep hill with about 200 pounds of cargo and i accidently hit boost trying to go up, the smell was so AWFUL, i thought i was going to cry. no slippage yet but i have a feeling shes gonna go by 20k.

I swapped mine to the Exedy Twin last week. I had 11k on the stock clutch, and it looked absolutely perfect. No burns, no nothing.

Your parents have some sort of influence on where you get your car serviced?

Please expand upon this. I am curious to see where it leads.

for those killing the clutch early make sure you check your driving style. ie. don't keep your left foot on the clutch(don't ride the clutch).

No mystery, I assume that they paid for it.

As for the guy who got a clutch installed for $200. Was it in somebody's back yard and that bill was for beer? I paid $720 just for labor. I know in some parts of the country you can get the price down to $600 or so but like someone else said, it is an 8-10 hour job.

You wouldn't believe how much stuff has to come off of the car to remove the transmission. It actually wouldn't be a bad time to have any other work done that you were planning...half the work of pulling the motor has to be done.

^ I second that...the bad part of the X is that so much **** has to come off to gain access to anything. The installs are no worse than the 8/9's but way more stuff has to come off.

Anything less than $500 there is no way the shop is making money on it. Unless it is a very small shop with no overhead.

Not sure if it's relevant but I replaced the original clutch in my GSX at 178K. The clutch disc still looked new but it had a broken spring. When I bought it, the car was bucking like it was slipping and the guy said it was the clutch. So I put a clutch in it. It turned out to be spark plugs. LOL.

Are you sure you didnt break anything by driving it hard? I had a similiar problem. Not the same but it ended up being my slave cylinder that was making my clutch slip.
