stock clutch life

My stock clutch lasted about 3500 miles without any abuse (by me). That said, the flywheel was scorched before I got the car (~100miles on it from the dealer). The stock flywheel is the weakest link. Once its compromised, it becomes harder an brittle and wears the clutch a lot faster. Its only a matter of time before the clutch burns away.
With a new OEM clutch and flywheel, I have about 10k on it and its fine. The point is that the short clutch life that a lot of people see is probably due to abuse in test drives before purchase, or the occasional retarded hard launch with the mentality of 'if i dont do it all the time, it wont hurt'. Wrong... if you hotspot the flywheel, the clutch will die soon

Premature wear of the clutch typically comes from a couple things:
1) abuse - launches, tracking, autox, drag racing
2) more power than the stock clutch can handle - it's going to give out at some point
3) driving style - either their 1st manual tranny car or, for a lot of guys, an Evo is their first AWD car. Driving an AWD car is different from driving their previous FWD Civic. They aren't adapting their driving style and it's killing their clutch.

I've been a lurker here and been away for some time.... Needless to say I'm back again because I've just about paid off my Cobra and was thinking about an Evo for my next DD in michigan snow...
Do you guys really go through clutches that quick? I mean damn I get 50-70K out of every clutch save for when my quadrant (auto adjusting POS in the mustang) went out and burnt that clutch. Every other clutch has lasted a long time and I'm on my 3rd v8 manual mustang.
I want an evo but fear I can't drive it like my Cobra... I launch all the damn time and get at least 50K out of a $120 clutch that I paid a professional shop to install for $330.
Hearing these $1800 figures for a damn clutch really scares me away from these cars again. Not to mention I can easily change my clutch myself but with it being so cheap I haven't. With the Evo it sounds like you guys aren't doing any work yourself on the clutch. Is is really that bad like removing axles and such?
I'm starting to reevaluate the simplicity of my low 12 second ride naturally aspirated. I want something AWD but not if I need $2K every 10 launches. I launch more than that in a weekend with the Cobra out.

The stock clutch isn't that great that's why a lot of people are replacing them it really boils down to driving style a friend back home has 34k no problem on his and some people are at 60k plus with no issues. I'm @ ~5k and I'm considering replacing it not because it's slipping or worn out but because I don't like the feel of the stock clutch. The cost part is because not a lot of shops have done clutches on an X some of the shops that have done a few are charging around 500.

I just hit 73K on my 08 and clutch is fine. Half highway, half street with about 20+ track days, 3 auto x and 10 rally x. I did manage to snap the shift linkage cable last year which the shop I went to fix said they've never seen happen before so yay for me.

My 03 Evo 8 is at 105K on stock clutch. Mild mods; AMS dyno tune shows about 318HP at the wheels. The clutch is still holding no slipping...yet. The Evo is a DD occasional hard accelerations not launches (dump clutching). Only one track day and no drag races.

24k miles and 453whp/331wtq on my stock clutch with no problems.
I have never launched my car and don't ever plan on doing it. Like Kracka said proper driving technique goes a long way
