spark plug touching
spark plug touching
so my car was running like crap today and i pulled the plugs out and found one with the anode touching the cathode but it didn't look like anything hit it well i re gap all the plugs and put them all back in and took her for a drive and no problems so i'm just wondering how the hell that happened?
Did you mean to post this in the Evo X forum?
I know this is going to turn into a sh*t-flinging fest if this relates to the Evo X so here it is:
I don't care what anybody who is supposedly an experienced or expert tuner says, unless you actually busted a chunk of a piston off (which is usually not the case since they are aluminum - the area where the boundary layer breaks ends up melting and leaving the combustion chamber in molten form, with smaller pieces breaking off after that), then that closed gap is from heavy detonation. Check your fuel system, check your tune.
It is basic, common engine tuning knowledge that the massive force that is detonation can easily close a plug gap - it doesn't take a busted piston or piece of a piston ring to do it. After all, you can close a plug gap with a couple pounds of force pressing the ground strap against a wooden table.

okay well i bought some new spark plugs just to try and baby it over to my buddy's house to retune it and it screwed up again but this time the new plug was scratched dinged and bent all over i'm going to say there is something in that cylinder.....
Dont drive it or your gonna make things worse. Period. Have someone with a boroscope check out the inside of your cylinders.
